What all things should check.

Going to look at 4x4 tundra CrewMax , 2008 141000 one owner and dealer maintained as per dealership. What all things I should look at before making decision to buy that one.

1) Rust on frame
2) Cam Tower leaks
3) Transmission shifts.
4) 4x4 transfer case.


What else ?

I would check for box rust on and around the mounting bolts and box trusses that run across the frame perpendicularly. Seems to be an issue. My 2008 is about to fly off on the highway.

 

If I had a time machine I'd go back 2 months and check the truck I was about to buy's air conditioning evaporator core for signs of refrigerant leaking with my cheap borescope. Only ended up being a $2k repair.

Also, make sure to listen closely for any signs of rear axle bearing noise.

 

Make sure it shifts into 4Hi and 4Lo without issues. Make sure no leaks coming from steering rack...look for seepage from water pump...make dealer replace battery....

 

Check all wear Items.... Rotors, brakes, battery terminal, battery date (even though the truck starts fine the battery might be old, check the date sticker and if old negotiate the price of the new battery off the sale price),air filter, cabin filter (in the glove box), oil change date, tires, shocks seeping oil, ball joint boots and CV boots, Rear diff (look for oil around the bolts), etc... If any are showing signs of wear, negotiate the price down for the replacements.

 

Forgot..........make sure it's not White....................dang it...too late.............................joking of course

Well son totaled his Camry, need to get him something don’t want him riding my ‘19. He is supposed to make payments, need to learn some responsibility.

 

Makes sense Jasmeet. That 08 has low miles and has decent maintenance records. What's the asking price???

Not a bad price at all as long as everything checks out....but make them replace the headlights, they are toasted, or take off another $300 when making the deal...

 

Going to check out tomorrow. I talked to friend of mine , he is lead tech at Toyota dealership , he might tag along with me.

 

Smart move there Jas. Have him drive it and do the look over...

 

Yeah that’s a great price in my opinion.
Wish I bought one that price when I bought my 2012.

 

Take it on an extended test drive on different roads surfaces with the radio turned off, listen for strange noises and pay attention to how it moves along. Other than the headlights, it appears to be in good shape appearance wise. Good luck!

 

Looks nice. The shifter knob looks like a Rock Warrior version (somewhat of a commodity) or similar.

If it has a "Drop-In" plastic bedliner, inspect underneath for bed rust.
