Kind of off topic. Don't kill me.. Ram 1500 Limited vs Tundra.

Not going to lie, I'm a bit stunned by this Ram.. Yeah it's not as pretty as a Tundra, but those features and that interior are something else.

Looks nice but to bad owners are going to be going to be seeing the service department alot. Tundra dude 34 says the next gen will have a 13+ inch unit in the dash.

 

Don't fall for it....I came from a 2012 Ram 2500 Mega Cab Hemi to the Tundra. After about the 15th trip to the service department at 54K miles I had enough of Ram. Best move I ever made was switching to Tundra. I'm now at 49K (as of today) on my Tundra and here are my repairs: Battery at 13 months old, Cam Tower Leak was done at 30K and re balanced the tires once due to a small shimmy....that's it.

Edit: All 3 items on the Tundra were at $0 cost also.

 

Well, I test drove one before buying my Tundra. They do look nice and a lot features. Went on a test drive with me, salesman and my wife. There was stitching in the seat coming apart in a new truck with 2.1 miles, brakes squealed bad but maybe go away with more mikes to be fair? We were 2 miles down the road and the salesman dropped the price by 10k. Screen looks awesome but many reported problems already with them.

In the end they are a Fiat product and when you peel back the onion they are cheap. Pop the hood on one and look at the electrical wires and the gauge of the wire they use......

Great looking trucks but underneath the skin they are really lacking quality and cheap, in my opinion only!

 

Nice interior. Lot's of electronic gadgets to go bad down the road. Mileage is great. $70K and a Dodge. Hmm, there ain't a Dodge worth $70K IMO. Pass.

 

I drove a raptor and it was beautiful.
Seat was comfortable, loved the paddle controls and everything about it but 70,000 for a truck with a less than stellar service recond was a dead no.

I drove all from the top three and went back to Toyota.

 

My days of anything from the Big 3 are a bygone era. GM on strike after screwing the American taxpayer says about all that needs to be said about anything from the UAW.

 

I had a new ram loaner when the tundra was in the body shop from hitting a deer. Ram was wicked fast off the line. Other than that it felt cheap, sounded cheap, and just had a low quality feel about everything. Now this was a middle of the road model but just felt CHEAP.

 

Look guy's, it's obvious some of you like all the goodies and whatever with the ram. I loved Dodge back in the 80's. Just remember..... FIAT . Good luck

 

Agree with the 80's Power Wagon. It was a tank of a truck.

IMHO any Dodge product is like having a cheating spouse. They will break your heart and cost you a lot of money. And when you get rid of them you will still have nightmares and panic attacks and a STD. That's what happened to a friend of mine.

 

Never fear, if the strike doesn't work out, GM will just get another taxpayer-funded bailout! Maybe Fiat will buy GM too.

 

They should have gone under along with Chrysler. Unions paying for politicians and vice versa. Crony shit that I'm not going to support with my money if I can avoid it. I like working with Toyota in my real job and will buy their products. They are manufactured here so don't no one give me some BS about buying American. And guess what? They don't have segregated parking for workers driving their cars to work.

I’m a Toyota fan, if the other brands were as reliable I’d expand my options, I don’t care much for the fancy new features all these new trucks have. I just want reliability, if dodge, ford or Chevy were reliable I would trade in my tundra but it’s a no for me on any other brand except Lexus.

 

As most would agree, it all depends how long you’re going to keep it. 2-3 years on a lease, maybe the Ram. Depreciation is the worst of the bunch on Ram, and they go to shit pretty quick. Look at any used Rams, door sqeeking, brake noise, rattles, etc. They sure are enticing when brand new, but don’t fall for it! Truth time, tundras are simply not the sexiest, and lack a few gadgets, but they weather years of use MUCH better, and are pretty damn reliable.

 

My brothers in-law family buys Rams exclusively, they have a large company and love them. That being said they have to replace them every 2 years, he said that’s the sweet spot for them. After 2 years and 50k they are shot, and they don’t buy the cheap the cheap ones either.
Side note my brother is still driving his 04 Tundra he bought new and they all rag him for it.

There are car buyers who want the latest and greatest while not necessarily caring about the investment. Toyota lags way behind in that regard but makes up for it with proven reliability.

If you buy a new vehicle every few years and always under full warranty, why not try out different options?

Which is why I don't understand people want to see the Tundra fully updated so badly. There are options out there available now for what they want.

 

It's a RAM. They would have to have at least two decades of positive rep before I'd ever consider it. Which means they're at least 20 years from that happening.

 

My boss bought one. It has been in and out of the shop several times with AC issues, electronic issues, and a random dead battery in less than a year.
His last 3 trucks were rams so he’s a fan but said this might be looking at something else next time.

I get that some people want most of those features but there’s got to be a way to simplify some of that.
But, what do I know? I’m just a guy that loves his 97 Camry, 99 Tacoma, and thinks his 2012 tundra has an electrical system that would probably be a nightmare to troubleshoot.

 

I just switched from a 2016 2500 6.4L Hemi. Now I do like the Looks of the Ram. Its quite aggressive. The engine is good too. It had great power, good torque (I hauled sand a lot, and towed a few cars), and ran very good. Now the electronics had problems from day 1. Bought the truck with 16km(after my test drive) mirror defrosters were intermittent. Sometimes worked sometimes not.
2. The drivers side power windows went up and down super slow
3. Power locks rarely worked
4. Weather stripping started ripping at the top of the doors passenger side front and back
5. Diff breather hose snapped off
6. Had to warranty the front left ball joint and wheel bearing
7. Re do front left ball joint, hub, spindle, warranty
8. Rear left wheel bearing
9. Never fixed electronics
10. Traded for the tundra

Always had toyotas. Have a 89 runner and 92mr2t I had a few pickups too. Thought I'd try something different and went for a dodge. What junk. Like it was a good truck. But not tundra or Tacoma or pickup good.

Not to mention the terrible service department. The recalls.... ok everything will have some. The dealer orders the part before you get booked in... show up... oh theres none in stock. Like wow

I mean, if you’re into sitting in a nice interior while waiting for the tow truck. Or, you need help getting up and walking more... I think it’s a very sensible choice.
