spare tire hoist relocated

has anyone relocated the hoist or moved over the hoist to have more clearance for the spare tire to not have rubbing issues with the shackles?

yes i ended up removing the tire for now i would rather relocated if it is simple instead of loosing bed space

 

best bet is to use slimmer shackles (TC, MCM,..) if you wanna keep full size under the bed imo.

 

How big of a tire can we put in as spare?

 

The upgraded shackles are bought and installed for a purpose. Replacing them for a spare tire is not an option in my opinion. Try something to push the tire away from the rear bumper similar to the stock "metal tire guide" that had to be removed for the 35".

I need to do this myself still. I have my hand in a cast, arthritis ate cartilage between a joint caused from an old injury. Once I am back in the ring for the fight I will be looking at this

 

If you remove the spare tire guide tabs you can fit a 35 in there. It's tight, but it'll fit.

 

Exactly what we are discussing. When you remove the tire guide and have shackles like Coachbuilder shackles and you put a true 35" tire under the tire will rub the shackles

 

Yes that's the shackles that I have so now it runs so I'm going to try and relocate the hoist about and inch over to the passenger side but I wanted to see if anyone had done it and if it was simple

 

Uh huh. Isn’t there a wee hole you have to put that long bar through to crank it down? IF you can move the hoist, your going to have to deal with all of that too. I’d imagine it’s easier to buy thinner steel shackles and be done with it. No need for billet aluminum unless it makes you feel better.

What about taking a piece of steel in place to keep your tire from sliding over?

 

Moving it to passenger side only ......not moving it up towards the engine bay so that should not be a problem

 

Only need about about half inch to 1 inch max to the passenger side

 

Weren’t you working on something to see if you could just keep it pushed forward?

 

Did not work it is to big of a rubber piece and to hard to make the whole to mount to the frame behind license plate

 

I have a full-sized 35" spare using my old Fuel Assault rims. And even if I cut the tabs off, I can't get the tire in the spare holder area because the rims are such that the device that takes it up to the space won't get level or stable enough to stay, so it's in the bed of the truck...

 

Maybe take a look at MCM Fab's shackles? Those are the ones I'm using.

 

It should not be that big of a difference the hole underneath tailgate has wiggle room

 

Not going to spend more money on shackels it's cheaper to relocate hoist or buy straps to mount tire on bed

 

I did not see any place on their site that sells only the shackles. I am not a fan of buying these expensive upgrades only to sell them to someone at a discounted price so I can buy yet another upgrade. In any event I did not see where to buy

 

you can fit a 35" there with slim shackles like the MCM. The CB while great are way overbuilt.
myself I have a 295/70/18 there with guides removed and MCM chackles. I still have some space left and could go up to 35"

 

and post exhaust chop. shows the clearance.

 

tire in the bed defeats the purpose of a truck unless it is a race dedicated truck.

 

I can't get my spare balanced on enough to get in the holding area...

 

This is confirmed by me today. 100% will touch without any way to make it not. Unless you are able to re-locate the tire mount its not happening.
