Bigger brakes?

Since purchasing my 2011 about 5 months ago, my only complaint besides some bed rust has been the less than adequate braking. I’m running 33s on 20s which shouldn’t make much difference. Has anyone put bigger breaks on their tundra? And what are your thoughts?

 

When you say "less than adequate" what are you experiencing? Fade? Soft pedal? ABS pulsing?

 

They feel soft. Have to push quite a bit harder on the pedal than I feel that I should have to. No grinding, squeaking, or uneven breaking though.

 

I would try bleeding out the old fluid first. There's a lot of components and things going on in a brake system. Start with the basic stuff before you drop 4k on brake parts.

Tundras come with one the largest factory available brakes on a truck. If your brakes feel soft, you either have air in the lines , your fluid has moisture in it, your pads are shot, or your rotors are not properly glazed with the pad material to provide proper bite.

Time for an overhaul.

 

Yeah. Turn your rotors, new trd pads, bleed everything with fresh fluid, and then see where you are. They work pretty darn good generally.
