my 2011 is in need of a headlight upgrade. I’m on the fence about restoring them because it seems like a band aid solution that works sometimes and comes right back others... For those that have replaced headlights on their 2nd gens please give me advice and reviews of your upgrades.
    Thanks!

    Picture?

If it’s something that’s going to be a pain in the George Dickel to install then I’m out.

Easy to install but expensive as shit. I spent 1700 for mine with harness and the headlight trim piece. Worth it though

    Do it!

Worth it! And easy as too install. Easier than plug and play led bulb set up!

I’ve had both. I have top of the line ls460 retro headlights too.

Retrofits can offer better lighting if the right projectors and bulbs are used.

But nothing beats OEM plug and play wow factor.

But in the end it’s peoples money, peoples taste and do what ever you want to your own truck. Op wanted different options on lights and he is getting plenty of suggestions.

One thing I learned about restoring, you will want to put a clear coat on them. Take them off the truck, not too difficult, the hardest part of our headlights is the plastic peice under the headlight, remember to pull straight forward, don't bend them left or right. I ended up going back to OEM because they just worked.

Restoring can help buy you some time. Haven't clear coated, but treat or wax often to help preserve.
McGuire's Heavy Duty restorer worked well for me.
Brings much life back to them

Removal is easy, it’s 3 10mm bolts. The filler piece the two tabs at the back may break off (mine did) and I just threw some super glue on the filler piece ends when I stuck it back on and that worked.

For the AlphaRex from what’s I gather it’s plug and play but you have to tap one or two wires for the DRL tube. Use Posi-Taps super easy. I think they have an install video and if not that have instructions. Trying to convince my wife to buy them for me now for Christmas since mine are oxidized on the inside now, already restored once

How is the housing? I've read other posts where people complain about the housing melting on other brands?

I’m torn between the Alpharex option and the factory style Spyders with black housing....
    Spyders are only $115ish
    Anybody have experience with these?

Sub'd to this thread. I keep restoring my OEM lights, but definitely curious on the different options. I just saw the AlphaRex and those look sweet!

I'm not sure honestly, guy comes and goes a lot so never really struck up a convo with him. This was just a walk up to my fence and snap a pic deal.
I've seen him drive by at night though and light output looked decent from what i could tell, but if i happen to see him outside I can ask him.

Are there any headlight upgrade that you don't lose the headlight leveling option?

I am not sure if aftermarket.

I know some people were adapting the oem leveling motors to spyder lights.

My ls460 retrofits kept oem leveling motor use
