So I had the transfer case replaced after realizing it was beyond my knowledge. When I picked up my truck the mechanic said a ujoint in my double cardan was bad so he replaced it. And yes he did say it was a pain in the ass.
Anyways, I started getting a knocking-ish noise and narrowed it down to what i think is the double cardan.
I got underneath and could mimic the tapping noise by moving the DC back and forth. Took it to toyota and they confirmed it was the DC.

So my questions are: How much play is in your DC? Can you move it by hand any amount and make an audible knock?

I removed the driveshaft and am trying to decide if I want to get it rebuilt by a driveshaft shop or order a new one from rockauto, about $1000 shipped to me.

If any fellow canadians have a double cab 4wd rear driveshaft somewhere or a lead to a used one please forward to me. Only two used available to me and one was flood damage and the other was a t-bone.

If you already paid one guy to fix it, shouldn't he be responsible for making it right or giving you your money back? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you on that part.

Yeah you're right, he's done a lot for me over the years though and charges me very very little anytime I take a vehicle to him. Even putting in the transfer case was really cheap. I'm just going to take the hit on this one. And to be honest, the luck I've had with this tundra, the driveshaft was going to go anyway.

have you asked your mechanic friend what he thinks might be the issue? Was the ujoint installed correctly? Is the other side needing to be done now?

No, I brought it to the dealer for them to check out and they also thought it was the DC.
