I am looking at running my after market bed lighting wiring to my overhead bed light switch on the drivers side, was looking at it yesterday and it seems doable if it is easy enough to pop out the switch and make the final connections and if a ground is available back there. Planning to run the wire with pop lock wiring up the passenger side. Has anyone else done this? Are there any negatives to this method? What have you done to power and control your bed lighting?

I’m definitely not a wiring guru, but I would want to run a dedicated power wire and then use the switch just for operation, if that’s possible.

Mine is tapped for power off of the trailer harness and then ran to a switch mounted in a factory hole in the bed. I do have to turn on the parking lights to get power to the harness but I'm good with it....they will never get left on.

I see this sounds like alot less hassle than running up the truck, so in park with headlights turned to on they will come on ? And aftermarket switch completes circuit once your at the tailgate?

Yes....I turn on my parking lights, flip the switch, and they are on. Now that I am thinking about it, you could probably pull power from the tail light harness instead of the trailer harness.

This is all too cool. Just found my next project! I definitely need this in my bed.
