I had some issues with leaks on my Fox 2.5's recently and would like to bring this up so that none of you run into the same issues.

I was doing my 10K mile checkup weekend before last and saw this...

I brought it down to the local 4 wheel parts and they stated that they have never seen this color shock oil before so I was not sure if this was coming from the shock. When I checked the top of the sock I didn't see anything that could have leaked from the engine compartment. Also, it was not not oily or liquid. Rather it was gummy and sticky.

Afterwards I sent an email to Fox support and they stated that it was a leak and that they have been using red oil for 6+ years. They also stated that they could have it checked under warranty. All I needed to do was to send it to them. This is my DD so that was a problem for me.

I then took matters into my own hands. I cleaned the shock up so that I could isolate the leak and after about a week I found that the hose fitting was where the leak was.

Once I tightened it the leak was fixed. I checked all the other hose and fittings to confirm they were tight. I then checked back with Fox on the torque specs but they have none. I estimate that I lost about an once of oil and Fox said that should not be an issue. Also since the nitrogen charge is isolated from the oil with a piston in the res I did not lose any of it.

So, just a heads up that if you are installing any brand of aftermarket shocks that have remote reservoirs you should take the time to check all fittings to avoid this from occurring. I hope this helps someone from having the same issues.

    Time for a beer!!!

That’s enough oil loss to replace imo.. Would definitely check nitrogen, the pressure goes down with oil loss.

I do have a nitrogen tank in my garage so I was thinking about checking it. That could also help me determine how much oil was actually lost. There was never any loss of ride quality so it may be fine.
