I have a 2011 Dbl cab/ 4.6l purchased in May,2018 from a GMC dealer. It was a 1 owner with 152,000 miles and engine serviced every 5,000 miles per Carfax. 2nd week after purchase, the torque converter let go and ruined the transmission. I had it rebuilt. In July of this year the engine went out. Metal shavings in the oil, knocking louder than 2 diesel engines. The private Toyota repair shop said the engine was shot. Purchased an engine from LKQ, with 101,000 miles and installed it. The truck is running fine at the moment. So in 14 months with me only putting 9,547 miles on the truck, I have replaced the transmission and the engine. Would you keep it or get rid of it? Arguments for keeping, what else is there to go wrong? Secondary Air system has been replaced. Argument for get rid of, you won't have the chance to burn me 3 times.
    Thanks for your input.

If you don't have negative equity, I'd trade it. But at this point you've fixed all the major $$$ items and if the AIP goes out you can get the bypass kit.

If you don't trust the truck, that's the point when I trade. If I second guess taking it on a road trip, then I know it's time to trade.

Unless you're buying a newer truck still under warranty there's no guarantee you won't face the same issues with a different vehicle.

At least with this one you know it's got a good engine and transmission.

I would trade it and get something with a warranty. It would be on my mind, daily if I lost confidence in a vehicle- especially on a major repair.

I third this. Some trucks are just cursed... Assuming you trust who did the Tranny and Engine install then the argument to keep it stands but are you ever going to trust something major or anything electrical won't happen?

    Sorry for your luck!

Thanks for the input thus far.
@Tundra234 the mechanic said there were brass shavings in the oil which indicated a bearing failure. Everyone I've talked to says this is unheard of in a Toyota which leads me to believe the former owner abused the truck.
My neighbor is one heck of a mechanic, he and I pulled the bad motor out and installed the new to me one. 20 hours over the hottest weekend of the year in Charleston, SC. My neighbor wonders if the former owner got the truck stuck and over revved it trying to get out.

Weird you had such bad luck, but once again used cars are a gamble, if somebody drove the piss out of it, didn't change oil, etc you can't blame it 100% on Toyota. Personally I'd keep it, after dumping that much $$$$ into it. It should be good to go for a while now.
