Brought my tundra in for the last toyotacare session (20k miles) and they told me they did the oil change, inspection, and rotated the tires.

They made it a point to tell me that they rotated the tires, but they didn’t. I have a slow leak in my driver’s rear tire and had to put air in it just before I dropped it off. I also replaced the stereo and I have one that connects to the OBD2 port to give me details on the pressure of all 4 tires. Each tire had a slightly different reading and was unchanged when I picked the truck up. Fast forward a week and that same driver’s rear tire is a little low.

I’ve heard of things like this happening at places like Jiffy Lube, and obviously Toyota would want to save as much money on “free” service as possible, but I have to say I’m surprised to see this at an actual Toyota dealership. Anybody else have an experience like this?

I would just call. They’ll make it right. Things happen. Most prefer DIY to prevent this.

Unethical practices. Go ahead and name the dealership. Others in your area deserve fair warning.

So it was Bernardi in Framingham MA. I’ve always been a DIY guy, up until this Tundra and my last Tacoma that came with ToyotaCare. I would normally not bother but I figured I might as well take advantage of the free oil at least.

I’m debating about calling them out in it, not sure if it’s worth it. Partly because I don’t have to deal with them anymore and partly because I can’t prove it and they might not even do anything about it.

You NEED to call them out on this. You need to detail your evidence and bulldoze them with it.

This is simply unacceptable business behavior. One can say "oh, goodness, bless-their-heart, this happens." But for a business that is engaged in the business of repeatedly processing the SAME customer service this is unacceptable. I would start with the service manager. If he/she isn't made available then I would demand the dealership general manager. Total BS.

Does your TPMS automatically re-learn the position of the tires after a rotation...?

Yes, that is how I can tell that the tires have been rotated. My dealer does the rotation but does not reset the pressures to the door placard. I'm okay with this, it shows that the tires have indeed been rotated (I can adjust the pressuers myself).

The easiest way to get this fixed without being an ass was to call and make them aware of their mistake and if they didn’t want to do anything just be honest on the Toyota survey. It would get fixed real fast then. I haven’t seen one of those surveys in years though. To answer your question yes I have had it happen to me. Very first Toyota on its first service. 2011 Tacoma. Said they changed it, I pulled the drain bolt loose sure enough it was black. Called them back told them and they basically said I was full of you know what and I was wrong. Went back listened to their garbage ass story for about 10 minutes then told their foreman and service manager to pull a sample from any tech’s gun. If it was close to mine I’d drop it. You could clock with an egg timer how fast they went from I’m an idiot to oh my god sir we are sorry. Don’t know how this happened. They gave me a coupon for my 30k mike service. I moved from there before I hit 20k. Oh well.

Hmmm... I assumed it did, but then I checked the idatalink maestro manual and it says you have to reprogram the tire position after tire rotation. I’ll have to check the pressure at each tire and see which one is low to confirm.

Happened to me at Honda dealership , back in 2012 , they charged me for tire rotation , but did not rotate the tires , my one wheel had minor scratch I came to know from that. Now every time I take my vehicle for maintenance and rotation , I put a chalk mark on passenger front tire , check it after the maintenance if they actually rotated the tires or not. Believe it or not caught folks at multiple dealerships.
