I live in Northwest VA, and am trying to find a reputable and fairly priced shop in the general area (Northern VA/Eastern WV/Western MD/Washington DC) to install ARB lockers and Nitro 4:88 gears front and rear. I have one estimate from what seems like a good shop for $6200 parts and labor. I'd love to have some comparisons, but from who?

Any suggestions or advice is appreciated!

(PS - my apologies if this belongs in a more specialized forum/thread)

Try Chaos Fab Shop in Winchester. Akamu Whatley ("AK") is the owner. Awesome guy. They're very good - I work with a guy who's gotten lots of stuff done there. I only spoke with AK once - over the phone, just had some general questions. He took time to talk to me for about 30 or 40 minutes answering all kinds of other questions & was in no hurry to get off the phone at all - I was quite surprised. Real great guy.

They're a Yukon shop, and have lifetime warranty on parts/labor if using Yukon gears. If using Nitro, they have lifetime labor warranty (but if you buy the Nitro gears through them, they'll honor Nitro's warranty).

AK was on that TV show Truck Night in America earlier in the year. Cheesy show, but was cool seeing him there. He won.

The orange Jeep on the front page is what he drove in the show: https://chaosfabshop.com/
Best of luck & God bless!

Thank you for the recommendation - Winchester is just about 20 minutes north of me. The other ship I got an estimate from, ORI, is there too. They too seemed like great folks, but it's always nice to have a bit of comparison before taking the plunge.

Oooof. Chaos Fab's quote came in at $9340. Based on numbers I had seen on various Tundra and offroad forums, I was budgeting $6500 at most. From what I've read, their work is truly excellent, but that price is a game ender. :(

I've uncovered some reviews on the other shop that I don't like the look of, so despite their more palatable price, I'm thinking they are a non-starter too.

So I guess I'm still looking. Anybody else have any suggestions for reputable off-road shops in the area that can competently handle the job?

Darren at Boss doesn’t actually do the install he has a guy in Leesburg do it but he definitely has the best prices on gears and lockers. Definitely worth having a conversation with him. Hi-tec auto in Chantilly does installs as well

Thank you all for your recommendations. I'll post the results here when I receive answers, if only so the next guy like me has a leg up on estimating pricing for this job.

Though I've heard good things about them, sadly they are just too far away for a multi-day, drop-off-the-truck job. I can't take the time off of school for a pair of nine hour, two-car round trips with the wife and kids this time of year. :-(

So far, the shop associated with Boss 4x4s wins the day. High-Tech Auto's quote wasn't at all bad, but Boss 4x4s affiliate had a labor rate a full $1000 less, and willing to let me buy parts from Boss 4x4 (at great prices); most others wanted inflated rates through their own shop.

    Thanks for the recommendations!

Definitely the best route to go. Just a heads up though you do need to figure in the on onboard air compressor. If the install guy is not doing it you need to have it done and ready to go before the install because they will want to test the lockers.

Yes indeed - I'm on it already. That was one of the first places I identified to save some cash. No use paying 7 or 8 hours of labor for a job I can easily do myself. (In the case of the switches, that I'd rather do myself!)

check out Justice Off Road in Williamsport MD. its about 30 min north of Winchester. they specialize in Jeep and Toyota upgrades. Danny Henley is the owner. Matt Corum is an installer as well. Matt was service manager at Millers Chrylser Dodge in Martinsburg and knows his stuff. Danny is former law enforcement and wont **** you around. Prices are good as welland no pressure to buy. Family owned business. Gotta vouchfor him hes my uncle lol.
