At the suggestion of another here, I’m looking into replacing the coil overs on my front end. Will anything other than coil overs for a 1st gen fit my 2000 tundra? I’m not really sure how to make sure what i get is compatible, or even how to appraise a set of i find a used pair. Any and all advice is very welcome, thanks!!

Welcome to the forum! I also have a 2000 SR5.

Honestly I wouldn't go used for something like that. Unless it's maybe from someone on this forum that can tell you how long they were used for.

I would go with something like a Bilstein 5100 or 4600 to just replace the front shocks. If you want lift and such then that opens up a whole other level of info, but it sounds like you are looking for straight replacement. I believe there is also "Old Man Emu" shocks that are a replacement and not a lift, however I am not certain of the model. Those are produced by ARB.

I hope this helps. Any more questions just ask away! Try to be specific and more members will chime in :)

Thanks for the input! Out of curiosity sake, what are some major issues with something used here? Is it the potential for things to be broken down after use, or are there simply too many things that can go wrong with front end shocks?
So far as more info, I'm looking down this road because I was initially considering a leveling kit (spacers) to allow for a moderately more aggressive tire (I don't need anything outlandish, just enough for the occasional weekend trip into the woods to fish). However, the more I looked into it and the more feedback I got, the more it sounded like a better option to replace my old (presumably original) coil-overs for something akin to the early TRD ones, which would have a similar effect to the leveling kit while also giving the obvious improvements to the front end.
Unfortunately, I'm not sitting on a massive pile of cash to drop into a project at the moment (hence the option of used). With that, I'm trying to figure out what a smart option is, how to tell if a deal drops in my lap, and how wide of a net I should cast when looking for parts.

    Thanks again!
