Has anyone come up with a creative way to kill the glare you get off of the cup holder and gear shift surround? Right now I have a bandana tied around the shifter but it kind of looks dumb. I'd love to see what y'all have done to fix this.

There are a few threads about this already. Painting, wrapping, plastidip are all the answers

Screwed on or just use a plastic trim tool to pop off?

It’s times like these that I like my column shifter even more. I have yet to experience any chrome glare from even my vent trim rings. I think plasti dip would be my first choice because it can always be removed like it never happened.

Satin blacked the cupholder bezel (vinyl wrap) and the chrome shifter ring (rattle can). It helped some but not much.

The boot seems like a legit fix for the glare.

I couldn’t get the chrome piece off so I did this mod. No more glare. I carbon fiber wrapped the cup holder.
$30 for the boot and knob.

Do you have more details on the shift boot install? Does it work with the OEM TRD knob?

How do you remove the cup holder trim? I have pry tools. Does it just pry up?

Very good ideas here. I'd also like to paint the silver trim around the shift indicator area. Does it pry right up?

    Thanks in advance.

It's a cheapo Ebay shift boot and a Tacoma TRD Pro knob. I doubt it would work with the Tundra knob, because it's not meant to have a boot. The Taco one has a recess for the boot to clip in to.

Everything just prys up and out, no bolts or screws that I remember at all for that mod!
The silver part is plastic welded to the black part of the surround. You can drill it free or just tape it off to paint it.

2 pieces to remove. First piece is larger surrounding the gear box. Then the gear panel itself. Then you can paint or place the boot. Then replace.
