My wife is an accountant so it's hard to get anything past her. Just have to come up with good justification. I got a pressure washer because "it will be better to clean the dog run" and Linex premium because "I need to protect my investment" and TRD CAI "I will get better mpg" I am working on ceramic tint now. "It will keep the baby safe from harmful UV rays"

I straight up send packages to work so she doesn’t pick it up at the door haha. Or I make a great reason to get something. That being said all my bills are in check.

Air compressor and air tools for shop: buy her a horse trailer that needs work that only a compressor can complete.
Truck bedliner(not installed yet): paint the horse trailer in the same color bedliner to sneak in truck material at the same time. (Aka I didn’t know how to do the math so I ordered more than less, and now I have enough for the truck haha).
Suspension for truck: can’t haul the holiday trailer or horse trailer without it.
Tow Mirrors: can’t haul without em.
Air bags: can’t haul without em.
Tires: old ones were unsafe to haul with.

The next on the list is gears. I straight up hit the LSD I have sitting in the garage. It’s pretty clear I can use the ‘can’t haul without it’ line but it can haul them. Just hauls them not great haha. Anyway someone help me out with the gears reasoning please :)

I could have put a 6" lift and 37's and probably got away with it. The funny thing is I don't have to hide it from her, I just got it done when she wasn't around so we never had the discussion!

This! Well, sorta. I think it's my way of convincing myself I need this stuff. Really she let's me spend whatever I want within reason. We both work hard for our money, so we typically don't dictate what each other can spend. She gets joy seeing the smile on my face when I buy the things I want, just as I get joy knowing she can buy herself whatever she wants whenever she wants. If it's a major purchase obviously we discuss it and make the decision together. We just celebrated our 25 yr. anniversary, so it works for us.

My wife has named my truck "Brandi".
Because , according to my wife , its a stripper name , and reflects the amount of cash i have thrown at the truck.
Coincidentally , my wife relies on Jesus (biblical) to miraculously fix her 2004 Sequoia whenever it needs repairs.
Me and the Lord are on BFF terms , so he lets me know what to repair on her car. Its our little secret....

I have not hidden anything from my wife. Although I have purchased things and not told her until I got them. Or at least it goes something like this. Oh honey I ordered those shocks I’ve been talking about. Typically she doesn’t even want to know how much it cost. As long as I don’t go out of control and just do a little bit at a time. While we are a joint household we don’t have joint accounts. She makes her money I make my money and we just pay for shit. Since I make more I tend to pay for the majority of our stuff. We are happy this way and it works.

None. We have joint bank account and one credit card. She doesn't work,so she gets any packages that arrive. She usually just rolls her eyes. I did tell her before I got the foxwing awning, about $600, and she was vexed by the price. But the first time we used it she said, I don't care how much it cost or if we only use it this one time it's worth it. High 90s, bright sun and no breeze on the beach in NC

With the exception of my HID retro job on my headlights I haven't done any real mods to my truck since marrying her. Most of my mods on the GTI are in the form of an upgrade opportunity during maintenance.

For example when my GTI brake pads were down to 2mm I went ahead and got slotted rotors and cool red pads. When I dropped the rear beam to replace bushings I upgraded to solid rubber ones from a Seat Cupra R, and while I was at it threw on SS brake lines since I had to detach them. It came with shitty coilovers that in my opinion were not safe, and so low that it blew out the control arm bushings, so I let her know I was swapping every bit of the suspension and adding a skid plate.

Like some others said before, bills are taken care of first and I pay for all my (and her) car needs. She is very into saving money and being debt free, I'm into that too but not as hardcore. I think it's a great quality but makes it hard for her to understand why I would throw good money at cars to fix what isn't broken and not see a financial return on the expense. I keep reminding her we have no car payments and we dont pay mechanic's for the work, we're still saving money vs "everyone else". If it's small stuff I don't bother telling her just to keep the peace, but if I'm gonna spend a day working on a car I let her know.
