There probably is no dipstick hole. I have a 06 double cab and mine is sealed. There is a fill plug on the passenger side of the transmission toward the back. Got to have a fluid pump to fill it. If yours is a sealed transmission you will need to replace exactly what comes out.... Used a gallon pitcher with marks on the side... As there is no dipstick to check level. There is a procedure to see if it is full, but I don't remember exactly. I have seen it posted here so someone knows.. Probably professional hand model.

Did you swap a 5 speed in your '02???:fingerscrossed:

I can't remember if that's been done. I try to follow the 1st Gen guys as much as I can because I loooved my '03. I thought about looking into that swap because my buddy gets way better MPG towing than i did. It's probably best I didnt find this site until after I sold it, and was researching my '18 haha. Other wise i would have been wayyy too deep into that thing.:spending:

No. I'm just saying I hate the fact that they ditched the dipstick. Makes the drain+fills way more difficult than it needs to be.

It is a PITA for sure. Did you get the trans up to temp and bridge the two OBDII prongs to show the temp reading on the dash with the blinking light? It's an interesting backdoor that Toyota built in for service techs without a Techstream.

Hear me out on this. If you drain cold and then re-fill the same measured amount, wouldn’t this be easier than going through all the proper temp ranges/etc? (Assuming your fluid levels are already proper before doing service which is a big assumption).

You could make your own dip stick checker (with a hook on end of wire) and stick it in the fill hole for periodic checks?
