I'm interested in buying some spyder v2 headlights. Are the tubes your drl's. Do you have to slice wires to achieve that or are they plug and play? Maybe someone that owns them can help me out.. I've included a picture of what I'm hoping for.

Yes, those “tubes” are the drl’s. You do have to splice to get power to them. You can simply tap into the wires powering the tiny orange bulb on the top corner of each headlamp (which is a drl). Pretty simple if you’re familiar with using t-taps or posi-taps.

That's what I was afraid of, ha. I've never done any kind of electrical work. I wonder if a local shop would install them. I've tried finding videos on YouTube, etc.. But no luck....

The tubes are not your drl’s,they plug into the socket that was used for the stock amber side marker!

Did you splice them in to your drl’s,the two sets I’ve retrofit so far have the side marker plug.

Yes, I did. How in the world do you power your orange side bulb if it’s being used for the “tube light”?

When I did these headlights they were all plug-and-play EXCEPT for an extra red and black wire which powers the tube and needed hardwired in by hand, so I tapped into side orange bulb for power...

The way the v2’s are wired with that plug coming through the side marker socket I don’t think they intended you to use the side marker but when I did my retrofit I used a sequential led tube in the headlights so I can use my side marker

So does your headlights look like the pic when your drl's are on? Or maybe take a pic of what yours look like. Ha

If the tubes aren't your drl's, what's their purpose? Serious question.. ha.. I'm a lil confused now. I want them to look exactly like the pic when my drl's are on

All you have to do is splice the red and black wires into your drl harness and they will be on all the time

Ok. I'll keep looking online in the meantime. The lights won't be here till next week. Thanks!

let’s under-simplify this. You remove the old headlights by unplugging 3 harnesses, I believe. You install new headlights and plug back in the 3 harnesses. You now have new headlights that function just as your old ones did. Your new headlights should also have a random red and black wire coming from them. Tap the red wire into a hot wire and the black wire into the neutral (ground) wire. The simplest way to do this is to tap into the “hot” wire powering the tiny amber bulb in the corner of new headlight. Repeat, but with the black wire into the neutral next to hot and you’re done. That new connection is for your new drl strip on new headlights. This is a great first mod to get some confidence and get your feet wet. Buy a couple extra positaps and practice joining 2 wires, do this in your living room. Vehicle wiring is so simple, for the most part, you’re overthinking this. Google “using a positap”...

So, in order to complete this job
You will need 4 positaps and a few extra feet of wire (18 gauge). This wire is great as the red and black are connected so you’re not having to tape wires together to run them. Positaps are one option to join wires, others are soldering, t-taps, to name a few.

Yours won’t look identical to the ones in the pic as we also have amber drl’s that are on with the “tubes” too. In order to look identical to the pic you posted, you’d have to tap into a simple “keyed, power-on” fuse or wire on your truck and those “tubes” would just be on whenever your key is in the ignition (no amber drl’s). They would be completely disassociated with your headlights in a sense...I wouldn’t go that route but to each their own.

I might be too late, but i bought spyders a few weeks ago with no splicing or cutting needed. The tube DRL plugs in the side marker housing like so.

    upload_2019-7-25_8-16-50.jpg

You just have to take the side marker receptacle out of the old light and use it to plug in the DRL

This means though the DRL behaves just like the side marker did. So its not on all the time, its only on when parking or headlights are on.

Are these version 2? Could you take pics of the lights themselves? But thank you! I'm about to order so you're not too late. Ha
