So I recently lifted my 2018, and had the dealer mount and balance a set of LT305/65r18 Wildpeaks... After two trips back to the dealer for steering wheel vibration, I was told that three of the four had excessive road force (around 45 lbs each), and there was nothing else they could do for me.

I have run many A/T tires, and have never had this issue. I have a few signs that point to lazy techs, like my alignment being slightly off, and the recommendation of buying balance beads, but at least I can give them credit for mounting them with the red dots in line with valve stems. DTD has been awesome through the process, and I have three new tires arriving tomorrow. Skipping the dealer and going with a very reputable local tire shop.

So I guess the point of all this is to see if anyone else has had issues with Wildpeaks, or lazy service departments, and to share the experience. Thanks.

I have Wildpeak AT3W's in 35x12.5 r17 and haven't had any issues through 18k miles (other than a nail through the sidewall, but that wasn't the tires fault). Shop didn't have a problem mounting or balancing and they run pretty quiet for a big AT tire. Been happy with mine. Hope you can figure out if it's the tires or the shop and all goes well.

I have them on Level 8 Slams, and the lift is OME 614s and Dakar leafs with +1 shackles and JBA UCAs.

Except the red dot is supposed to be lined up with the lowest part of the rim. Highly doubt that's where your valve stem is on all 4 rims. That is probably your issue...

Had a similar issue. Had them balanced 3 times and still shook. Had them road force balanced and it’s good to go. Took a good amount of weight, several ounces and in more than one spot on the wheel but rides fine now. Won’t buy these tires again though.

Could very well be the case. I've always understood it that if the tire has a yellow dot, align with the valve stem. If it has both yellow and red, align red. While all four have both, the "good" tire, according to the dealer, has both dots relatively close to each other, while the other three have the dots basically directly across from one another.

If there is anything that requires analysis beyond that, like identifying high/low or heavy/light parts of the rims and/or tires, I can easily see it being a lazy tech issue. Hopefully the place I'm dealing with on Thursday is more on the ball.

You are correct in the fact that the yellow dot should be ignored if there is a red one.
There is usually a very small dimple (sometimes notch) in the rim that indicates where the low point is. Should be easy enough to spot once you know it's there.

It is, but it could be better. I'm having it checked when I have the new tires mounted.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out, and mention it to the shop that's mounting the new tires.

I had similar issues. 3 different shops. The first shop installed a tire with water in it. The 3rd shop finally dismounted the tire and found he water. It has been good since then.

I’ve got a set on my truck without issue and I’ve got about 55,000 miles on the set on my Tacoma. I think when people have issues, it’s more likely a lazy shop than all these tires are bad

That's what I'm thinking as well. I've heard great things about these tires, and can't believe QC would be poor enough to let this happen. I think it's hit or miss with dealers, and my spider sense is screaming lazy service department... I'll report back on Thursday, after I have my local tire shop take a stab at it.

I’ve had all mine done by discount tire. I don’t goto the dealer for anything these days

Falkens are cheap tires. I looked at some for my F150 and decided that the old saying "you get what you pay for is true". F150s are tire eaters and will chew up a cheap tire.

I've had two sets - 315/70r17 and 285/75r17. both balanced fine and had zero shaking. Haven't seen many other complaints so it may be a bad batch (unlikely), or your techs keep doing something slightly wrong?

So I took the three new tires to a local discount tire shop in town... They were basically appalled at the balancing job done by the Toyota dealer. Long story short, there was very likely nothing wrong with the tires I'm sending back to DTD... Truck is driving like a dream now. Posted an after pic below. Now the only thing wrong with this picture is the crappy wash job from the touchless wash I took it through after.
