I have an 08 5.7 liter V8 engine. The air conditioner has stopped blowing through the vents and now blows through the defroster.
Is there a fix, the dealer wants to replace the blower unit...$2800.... There has to be another solution.. Does or did any other 2nd generation have this issue ???

Sounds more like the mode motor.....I would think if it still blowing feom different area that the blower still fine.....but if it is not switching from different vent options then sounds like mode motor

Can the mode motor be changed ? Or do I have to replace the complete system like the dealer wants ? I saw a spot under the steering wheel where I think the mode model is located. Is that the spot ?

I'm not sure where it is at but I'm sure some one will chime in and let us know.....I would pay diagnose fee to see where it is at and to confirm issue

I think what you're looking for is a blend door actuator. It's behind the glove box and is relatively easy to remove after removing the glove box. You should be able to pull it and see if the plastic gear is stuck or broken which would prevent it from pushing air thru the selected vents.

I was quoted about the same after diagnosis. They way they built the early gen 2's they have to remove the whole center console and dash to switch them out. Quoted me 11 hours + part. I just lived with it blowing out the defrost for 2 years before i traded it in.

$2800 is steep, I wanted to know if there was an alternative before I decide on a new purchase and another 5 years with a note...
