    Started on a new job this week that’s 105 miles door to door one way. I’ve been making the drive every day ~90 minutes, pretty much all I20 and 95. This is with my cruise set at 70. Hand calculated 17.182, seems like I had plenty left in the tank, since it only took 30 gallons. 280F4E41-B2EF-4687-B6EC-A41084758BEE.jpg

    I hit 17.8 the other day on a 70 mile trip on the 99 through the valley. No hills. Must have had a good tail wind or something. Like you I just started a new job with a bit of a commute. I’ll be getting a commuter car though..

    Yeah, I travel for work, and this is the closest to home I’ve been in a while, so I’m trying to not camp on this job. We’re going to 6 12’s in a couple of weeks though, and I don’t know how I feel about a 15 hour day.

    What are your driving techniques to achieve these numbers? Getting up to speed quickly and holding or keeping it under 2k RPM and slowly increasing speed until your desired speed is reached?

    Driving like you have some sense. Not accelerating quickly. Not following too close. Going 72-74 mph steady instead of going 70 and then 80 then back to 70. I don't use cruise control. My tires are set at 35 psi cold. I don't have any mods. I don't haul any unnecessary weight or run aux lights just to look cool.
    My climate control is set on 70 degrees, the ride is comfortable. I don't get road rage. I pay attention when I drive.
    That's what I do. Any bad driving habit will kill your mpg. Underflated tires will kill your mpg. Hauling unneeded weight will kill your mpg. The funny thing is most people think they are good drivers lol. They aren't. Most people are at best, average drivers.

    I see. So you're essentially hypeymiling.. Timing green/red lights. Coasting, and taking it easy. Makes sense. I can pull this type of drive but every now and then some idiot(s) will get on my nerves.. Did I mention we have some of the nations worst drivers here?

    No, absolutely not. Tires are at normal pressure. Not drafting. Not turning off AC. Not timing lights or anything. Simply just driving like I have some sense. I pulled a 5K trailer 400 miles a few weeks ago and got 14 mpg.
    Every now and then I turn off traction control and light it up. Sometimes I floor it just to hear it wind up. But, when I want to get good mpg I drive like I have some sense.

    This might be my best so far. This was about half highway. I've yet to break 21mpg. I'm not sure if it's possible.

    I hit 22 going down 95 at night. The longer the trip the easier it is. In many parts I'm getting 30mpg barely using any gas to keep the speed up. It's the stopping and accelerating that is like 4mpg. But 21 is fantastic for a short distance.

    I got 17.5 to 18 driving from Arvada to Steamboat Springs which is quite a pull as most Colorado people know, I was very happy with that average about 14 in the city

    Platinum base, K&N cold air intake, Bed-x-tender, light bar in lower grill, Fuel rims with offset, front lifted via Bilstein 5100's, soon to add Coachbuilder Shackles +2 to rear.
    I was stoked to hit 15 MPG on my trip from SLC to Bear Lake. I did have some major mountain road action and wasn't afraid of maintaining 70+ MPH up Parley's Canyon. With the K&N cold air intake I just installed, the engine was humming up the hill (with a load of gear in the back and passengers, so I think 15 was pretty good). I will say, the cold air intake was an easy and not too expensive mod, and I love the sound my Tundra makes when I get on the gas.

    I have my tools in the bed, I’d guess my box and everything I have to carry is around 250 lbs. I’m gonna try to crack 18 this week. I still have to fuel every couple of days, but I’m still pretty satisfied with my mileage this tank.

    Went 440 miles round trip to Scottsbluff, NE and back. Posted freeway speeds varied from 75 to 80 mph. I-25N to I-80E. Speeds up to almost 90 in some cases to stay with traffic. Ave>>14.4

    That was my experience before. Being heavy footed, cruise set 80-85. The computer said avg mileage was ~15. Now, I’m trying to not have it downshift when I accelerate, and just being smoother overall.

    Just drive like elevator music and you can do it. You know, not too hard or soft, not too fast or slow, not too country or rock, not too aggressive or boring... elevator music!

    I'm not usually in such a hurry but had to be at Scottsbluff by 9am. I slowed down somewhat heading back. I expect to hit 16 or better doing 70 on the freeway where allowed. Yesterday was my first real roadtrip. I've only had my 14 for 2 weeks.

    I did a run to NH, all back roads but no traffic. Reset when I filled up, ran 142 miles round trip and averaged 19.3908CB959-2ED5-40D2-870A-D9CA4D90609D.jpg

    If it's any consolation, once you reach cruising speed, pretty much every truck in the same weight class as the Tundra uses the same amount of fuel to drive at 70-75 mph. What kills everyone is they think "I will drive 80 and that only uses a bit more fuel." Unfortunately that is not the case lol. If you get 18mpg at 70 mph, you get around 14 mpg at 80 mph. If you drop down to 60 mph, you can get around 20 mpg. The speed to fuel used relationship is not linear, its exponential!

    Mine does a lot better on the highway vs city.

    The MPG really drops off fast above 75 ish.
    Driving at 75-80 I will get about 16-17. Driving below 73 will get 19-20.

    I also have a cab height canopy on back, didn’t notice any difference in MPG’s.

    19.1 over 215 miles. That was on 2 lane highways running 60-65.

    Yea I am fine with mine too. In fact, my 2017 6MT Tacoma I traded in only got about one mpg better on highway. I definitely can live with that!

    The drop off's aren't quite that bad. My daily work commute is 150 miles round trip in mostly flat Florida. I've been keeping track of what the computer says on strictly highway for the past two months.

    I can get the computer to read the following:
    72 = 17.8-18
    75 = 17.0-17.2
    78 = 16.5-16.8
    80 = 15.9-16.2

    I've hand calculated a number of long road trips where I cruised at 80 most of the time as well and gotten 15.9, 16.0, and 16.1.

    This is on a '16 Crewmax 4x4. Stock 18's with highway tires.

    Had to run into town for oil and dif oils yesterday. 36 mi round trip. Caught all the lights. Country and city driving. 35-45 mph.

    19.7 avg round trip.

    21.1 avg on way out (more or less downhill-ish)

    That’s running 35s and a 6” lift boys n girls. Stay off the go pedal when you can

    Sounds right, I get 14mpg mixed, 17-18 on hwy anywhere I go (short or long), sometimes 16 uphill.
    Tundra's epa numbers are pretty dead on. Not faked like Ford or Dodge now under lawsuits.

    2.89 in SE Washington. Wish it was that price for me.

    10’000 miles tracked, with an average of 14.9mpg. This was with a 3” leveling lift, and stock tires. Now I’m running 295/70r18s, and I know my mileage has decreased, but haven’t tracked it yet. I should also add that I live in the mountains. 5EABD615-CD00-4B22-8B26-957D95AE721C.jpg
