I ordered some replacement housings on Ebay. They're great, except the passenger side's parking light lens cap was loose when they arrived. When I put them into place on the truck, it fell off completely.

I've already emailed the seller, so I'm waiting to hear back. I really want to avoid having to ship these all the way back since that will be expensive as hell.

Is there anyway I can fix this myself? I've read a few things about baking the headlight in the oven to remove the lens. Not sure if that's what I need to do?

You could pull them apart and pop the lens back on, but I think I'd rather have the seller swap it/them out for one to avoid the hassle.

Yeah, if I have to pull the housing apart, I'll have to do that.

Is the oven methodthe easiest way to pull these apart?

I'll see what the sell says. It took nearly 4 weeks for these to arrive, since I have to order them out of the US on ebay.com. Their sales page says returns are on the buyer's dime, so shipping these down unless I'm reimbursed for it would be pretty damned expensive. :(

If they were new you shouldn't have to pay a damn thing for return shipping on a manufacturer defect.

That's far different than just deciding you don't want them.

That's exactly how I see it. If they won't cover the shipping and send me a new one, I'll be leaving negative feedback for sure.

I'd be raising hell with eBay if the seller tried to make me pay to ship back something that arrived broken.
I totally understand the time thing, but I am so leery to crack open a headlight because I worry I wouldn't be able to get it 100% sealed back and end up with condensation....

If the seller tries to charge you for return shipping on an item that arrived damaged, let them know you'll be filing a claim with ebay/paypal for a full refund. Ebay/Paypal will side with you, but it will take a few weeks to get your money back. Trying to open these up to repair yourself is asking for problems if you aren't already experienced with that task. It can be a pain in the ass...not to mention if you do not re-seal them perfectly, you will eventually have issues with moisture in the housing.

Good to know. I don't generally deal with Ebay because of past issues like this. Took a chance and have yet to see if I get burned again. One way or the other I think I'm done with buying stuff off Ebay.

That's what they should do honestly. I was about to tell you to file a claim with ebay but it sounds like you won't have to. Keep us posted on the new ones.

    Another update:

Seller replied this morning again saying that they can't ship the replacement to me because my address is outside the US. What the hell!? They did it once already. Assholes.

Now I guess I'll have to have the light shipped to the package receiving depot in Sumas, Wash and have my dad or friend pick it up and ship it up to me. What a pain.

That makes zero sense. I would return the damn thing for a refund and order something else. Given how fast it broke how good can the quality be? eBay will take your side on this if you choose to get a refund.

I'm guessing they shipped from a distributer and the warranty comes from a different location. There's nowhere in Canada that I can find lights anywhere similar for a reasonable price. Just OEM style are nearly $250 per side. Dunno what to say about the quality, the other side is solid and they have lots of good reviews. I'm guessing I just ended up with a poorly assembled housing.

It sucks, but it's not a huge deal I guess. My dad is driving up from Abbotsford, BC in the first week of Sept so he'll bring pick up the replacement from the depot in Sumas and bring it up to me when he comes.

Man, I often forget that you guys have to jump through a lot of hoops to find products up there. I'm sorry. That makes a simple purchase difficult at times.

Yeah, it really sucks. It's not so bad if you live near the border, then it's only the exchange rate being a bitch. Unfortunately, I'm a 12 hour one way drive from the border. :(

It's one of the reasons I'm envious of my friends who have been able to move to the US. Their options for shopping are seemingly endless and economical.

Is there something special about these? There seem to be several available on Amazon.

They're readily available on Amazon.com, but on Amazon.ca there's only a couple that are listed for $400. After exchange and shipping it was cheaper to buy them from Ebay, than Amazon.com. Now that I look again though, there seem to be some closely priced options that ship to Canada.

At this point, I'd rather not fight for a refund and deal with shipping these ones back but I did just an email asking them about returning them and getting a full refund. If they'll pay the return shipping, I might just do that.

I do wish I had bought from Amazon, it'd have been way easier. This is the last time I ever deal with Ebay.

UPDATE: They ended up just refunding me completely, both for the lights and shipping. I'll take it I guess. Once the refund comes through, I'll just order the ones on Amazon.

So while I'm waiting I'll clean up my old ones and put them back in.

This was too much of a pain. 4 weeks to ship, a week to deal with an issue. Goodbye Ebay. All hail our retail saviour, Amazon!

F*ck Amazon. In all honesty, that's not ebay's fault. I order from them all the time and have done so for a decade. I've only had 1-2 bad experiences and ebay had my back. Sellers are far more likely to get screwed on there than buyers. I'll shop for the same items on both sites and it's often cheaper on eBay with free shipping.

Amazon has been constantly reliable for me and the few times I've needed to return or exchange something it's been painless and quick. Hell, the replacement headlights I'll be ordering will show up in under a week and they'll be coming from the US as well. 4 weeks to ship something on the same continent is pretty sad in this day and age.

I'm a little sour on Ebay because this is the 4th time I've bought something on Ebay and the 3rd time it ended up being a clusterfuck. Surprisingly, my wheels were the only Ebay purchase I've made that went smoothly.

I feel ya. My hatred for Amazon comes from having to work with them through my job. They are the worlds largest assholes. As a customer you are right. Their customer service and return policy is great.
