Wanted a truck for upcoming home improvement projects, and well, because truck. Didn't want to spend big bucks and nothing too well preserved. Stumbled on this Tundra on Craigslist. 2000 AC 2wd 4.7L 212k, $3600. Lots of dings, scratches, peeling clear coat, dented bumpers. Kind of like me. In short, my perfect match. I wasn't looking specifically for a Tundra, nor do I know anything about them, beyond a vague reputation for the gen 1 as a solid truck. My original plan was to get a beater and do nothing more than basic maintenance, at least, that's what I told my wife. But, well, I haven't had the truck a week and am getting the itch. Those damn build threads here are killing me! So far I've given it thorough cleaning, polished the headlights, and fixed the broken rear window latches with the aluminum parts (thank you forum!) Gotta get it in for an inspection to understand the mechanical condition. Then change all the fluids. The tranny pan is wet and there's minor seeping at the front u-joint. I've put together a long list of minor issues I'd like to address, and that front bumper took a hit so maybe replace that? And, well, the back bumper is a bit lumpy, too. Of course most of the weatherstripping is shot so there's that. And then there's that clear coat... Looks like I'll be here a while.
