Resonator delete?

Went to go change my stock rusted out muffler today thinking it would be easy but of course it wasn't. Pretty much the resonator and muffler flanges rusted together and well eventually fell apart after some yanking and prying. So as I was down their cursing I started looking at resonator and that too doesn't look in too good of condition as well. So my two options are to buy a new resonator pipe assembly or do a resonator delete. Has anybody done this and if so are there any consequences? Does any company make a flange that will mate up to the Walker quiet flow muffler I already purchased? The flange on the resonator side has a few inch straight length before it hits the mating surfaces. Any help will be appreciated!

Looks like Rock Auto has an entire system (resonator, muffler, hangers and gaskets) for $215

Might be the way to go.

I bought my truck with JBA's, no resonator and a Magnaflow muffler. Sounds great but a bit annoying on the highway. I'd say you could remove the resonator but keep the stock muffler and have a good tone without being annoying but not 100%.

 

The #1 Difference Between Mufflers and Resonators. The main distinction is that a muffler is designed to muffle the overall volume across all RPMs, whereas a resonator is designed to eliminate unwanted resonance or noise at a particular RPM, also known as exhaust drone. ref=Google. Keep/replace the resonator unless replacing with quite mufflers or a quality performance muffler such as Borla or Corsa.

 

Some guys use a glasspack as a replacement for the resonator.

 

get a JBA Y-Pipe. I had that on my '05 and it was great. Almost no sound difference from stock.
