A while back I noticed a Tundra in the parking lot at work, that I see all the time, had undergone a pretty dramatic lift in the front.

So, being the nosey neighbor that I am I took a peek underneath and saw the owner had upgraded to 5100's with the spring perches set on the top setting. I also noticed that the perches were mounted upside down.

I've seen the truck a lot but never met the owner so I go to my office and type up a nice note saying " Hey, being a Tundra enthusiast I noticed you upgraded to some 5100's blah, blah, blah, but I just wanted to let you know the sping perches are installed upside down, which could, potentially, lead to a catastrophic failure of your front suspension. If you have any questions here's my number."

A few days go by and I finally run into the guy, super nice BTW, and he thanks me for the heads up and tells me how he doesn't off-road and just pretty much DD's and tows his bass boat with it.

We have a nice conversation and I reemphasize that he may want to get that taken care of soon as it's really not safe to be driving around like that.

Well, it's been probably 3 weeks since I gave him the heads up and they're still the same.

Should I just MYOB? I wanted to help the guy out but I guess some folks just aren't too concerned about stuff, even if it could cause an accident.

You advised him and that's all you can do. If he doesn't care then that's on him.

Oh yeah, no alignment done. Inside edges are wearing fast and should be hitting the cords very soon.

After some thought. Does he have uca’s? Probably not, which means there is no way they aligned it perfect with that much lift. So when his tires wear out really fast, he will learn

Good man, you did the right thing and friendly thing. It is all on him to actually make the changes. Best advice I can give is to just keep the chat friendly if you see him again, talk trucks and upgrades - maybe he will eventually feel guilty/uncomfortable about driving something around that is not as good as it could be.

You did your part, but if it was me and I run into him again the parking lot I would say something like have you taken care of those 5100's yet in a joking matter.

No UCA's. So much positive camber the inside edges are already gone.

Already did my part, I'm done. I'll say hi if I see him again but that's about it.

You're a good person Mr. Bender! It'll click for him when he gets new tires installed and they see the horrible inner wear and inform him of the same thing you did...and he'll say to himself:
"oooohhhh, that's what that Taco guy was talking to me about"
