You would be surprised. On the inside some plastic and the whole hood is fiberglass. Even on the gun trucks. I haven't been in one for a few years, doubt much has changed.

I’ve had the front bumper off twice to replace endcaps damaged while wheeling. As an engineer, I really appreciated how the parts were like a lego set. Very easy to replace individual parts (endcap). I will say that researching the process beforehand was very helpful to know what to lookout for.

 

OP, I get what you’re saying. The plastic parts are irritating to me too. That said, the last vehicle that I had a steel bumper on from the factory was my 1995 F150 which was completely bulletproof. I finally sold it around 2009 with 250k+ on it. Here’s the issue though. That thing had zero tech in it. That’s probably why it was bulletproof. The more complex you make any system the more prone it is to failure.

But again, I get it. These plastic bits don’t like being taken apart repeatedly.

As for brand reliability, I’ve had a few ford trucks and none ever let me down at any point. I also had a couple of chevy’s which never let me down either. I had a dodge, and well, I had a dodge. As far as my tundra, it’s been in for 4 recall issues in less than a year, BUT it hasn’t let me down yet and right now, I still
dig it. Here’s what it comes down to, find what you dig, and enjoy it.

I have been in a few... Not saying they are the greatest thing... just not as much plastic as in a Tundra. Which was what my reply was referring to....

This post made me think about upgrading my oem glue gun to something more robust. Looks like the best one might be this one, but it looks to be only sold in a plastic version. Anyone have any recommendations?

That’s funny, that is my least favorite thing about the truck. The LEGO like nature of the bumpers. Those god damn plastic clips and the lattice work of sheet steel holding it up. I really like the older solid bumpers my GMC had. Of course the rest of that truck can rot in hell but whatever, different strokes for different folks.
