Can’t figure out what the deal is with the stereo in my wife’s new Sequoia. Her phone is paired to it with Bluetooth, and she’s had no issues.
The problem is when I’m driving it, I like to plug my phone in with an aux cord to play music. I haven’t paired my phone to it, just want to use it as a music player.

When I first plug it in, it works fine, but will eventually disconnect. It will no longer recognize a device being plugged in, won’t even charge. Unplugging it and plugging it back in does nothing. Turning the phone off and on does nothing. It won’t reconnect until I kill the truck and start it again.

I don’t know if this is an Entune issue or what, but it’s pretty frustrating.

Here’s what the stereo looks like if it helps.

The wife's T4R would do that. The service department had a list of like 11 updates that the HU needed (all pertained to the apple and android OS's). After they did the updates, no issues since.

I did suspect that. Guess that isn’t a service performed in the make ready department.

Yep, like Pat said, I would run it up to the dealer and check for updates. That would bug the shit out of me as well.

You would think so. I think it took like 20 minutes. I waited for when it was time for the services and had them do it then.

Yeah, I’ll have them do it then, if I don’t change the head unit first. She really wants Apple CarPlay. You guys think the stock stereo sucks in a Tundra, you should hear it in that big ass Sequoia. Complete garbage. JBL Premium my ass.

The Tacomas and 4runners sound good (to me at least). Still don't understand why they can't use the combination in the Tundras and Sequoias.

Seriously. The stereo in my 2011 Tundra wasn’t horrible, and it was a base SR5. I did eventually change the speakers, but it was decent enough. The newer ones are absolute trash. I couldn’t stand it in my 2017.

At least the Sequoia is just a huge cavern on the inside, so it takes a lot to get good sound. No excuse on the Tundras.

The updates should actually just come down over the air when your wife's phone is connected, so the dealership may be a waste of time. Did they set up her phone with the Entune app? There's also an option to build a USB from the Entune support site, but that functionality has been getting replaced with the OTA stuff.

Jason, try pairing your phone to wife’s sequoia. Then play audio through Bluetooth. If it works and plays audio. Then disconnect from Bluetooth and plug in the aux cable to your phone and the radio. If it doesn’t work. Then it’s either the cable that could be faulty or the aux port as well could be faulty. Updated will certainly help, but that will be mostly for Bluetooth and other content. I wouldn’t imagine it would have anything to with the aux port.

I’ll try a few things this weekend. She’s headed out of town today, and she doesn’t care about playing music through a device anyway. She only listens to the radio.

I think we're looking at the aux USB here, not the aux 3.5 mm jack, but probably would be good to get clarification on that.

Actually good point, but in that case being USB, you may want to test another location and see if you the same results
