Toyota Tundra is the only truck manufacture that indicates in their user manual not to use the cruise control while towing. Purchase a truck with a towing package to tow an RV and experience cruise control disengagement and crash avoidance activation with sway control warning alarm indiscriminately during towing.
I find this unacceptable and unconventional for a pickup.
Using cruise control while towing is an expected feature. Totota should have indicated this during the sale. This would certainly put this truck on the bottom of my list for consideration. Now that I have purchased it and found this truck is not good for towing RV. Who buy a truck for towing and would not use cruise control on trips and getaways?

Have you actually tried to use cruise while towing? This is in the manual to CYA Toyota's ass for someone losing control while towing and not having COMPLETE control while towing. I bet if you look in other MFG's manuals, it would say the same.

If I recall correctly my previous Ram had the exact same wording in the owner manual :notsure:

I’ve never seen that before, good info.

I’ve been towing 3000 pounds all over the good ole USA in S4 with the cruise control set at 60mph. And of course on hills, I take over..

If you’re going to use cruise control while towing that’s the way to do it. Anything more is silly. Out on a wide-open road on the flats, shouldn’t be an issue. Expecting the truck to do everything for you is silly though. That’s a good way to get people hurt and is not a secret LOL.

Mostly flat in Florida towing. Older trucks don't have new safety features such as crash avoidance which cannot be disengage when using cruise control.

This issue would not apply to older vehicle that does not have the new safety features, like crash avoidance. Check your RAM manual and post a copy of it. I don't believe it has this statement??? Show Proff?? I have a 1993 f150 didn't have an issue towing same trailer using cruise control. Dealer has pointed to the manual to resolve this issue, what a cop out!

I don’t understand what the problem statement is. This is an issue being created where there is not an issue.

You can use the cruise while you tow. The pre collision system won’t interfere with you towing or driving.

...Unless you ride people’s bumpers while towing.

This issue have nothing to do with hills on terrain. It's about intermediately safety feature (crash avoidance) of 2019 SR5 coming on while towing an RV.
    Thanks for coments

In the middle of the highway no surrounding vehicles for at lest a mile, crash avoidance activates and cruise disengages and a warning illuminates on dash. This happens frequently. Dealer indicates manual statements to solve issue???

I thought the manual says to turn the PCS off while towing or hauling.

That sounds like the PCS is not functioning correctly. Does it do this only while towing, or does it happen regardless.

After you clarified it sounds like your dealer doesn’t want to fix a malfunctioning PCS/TSS.

That’s his point- he doesn’t think he should have to give up cruise control while towing, and I agree.

Of the other opinions shared, the belief is that Toyota advises owners to disable everything while towing in order to assure an abundance of driver control and less reliance on automated vehicle systems while performing the potentially hazardous act of towing a load behind the truck.

I think we would all agree that the advice provided in the manual is conservative to a fault. I think we all would also agree that if the system is malfunctioning, the right thing for Toyota to do would be to fix it, not simply advise the owner to disable it.

I’ve used the cruise while towing rock and bark dust in a trailer and it has always worked fine, even in traffic and amongst other vehicles.

Also, turning off the PCS disables the cruise.

    Speculating here but...

We know these very problems (spelled out in the manual) happen with lifted/leveled trucks that don't maintain at least a 1" rake. My guess... you can load up the bed or tongue "too much" and essentially take out the OEM rake, creating the same situation lifted/leveled trucks deal with. Or when hitting a bump and the weight causes the rear to dip and nose to raise past the 1" limit...

    Just a guess.

Haven’t heard of this, as I never use CC while towing. But upon searching, F150’s say the same thing:

For good measure, Ram 1500. Essentially says the same thing. Don’t use CC with heavy loads or hilly terrain. Only on flat roads with light loads.

I want to vote, but I feel that question doesn't make sense. I don't have an inability to use cruise. I just set it on a flat surface (while towing) if I want and go. Inability? If people's trucks are limiting them from doing the same then I sure don't know what to tell them.

This is 'Murica. You can make stupid decisions all day long and disobey your owners manual.

Heck, you could even start a thread about how inferior the new truck you just bought is. That's what makes this country the best (sorry Canadian friends).

You can set the CC mode to ignore the PCS system by holding the CC on/off button for 5 seconds.

If the PCS sensor malfunctions or is too dirty then you can still arm the CC.

2 ways to turn PCS off-

Scroll through the settings on the speedometer menu (using the control button on the right side of steering wheel) all the way to the right. Scroll down to PCS and click center button

Or, reach down with right hand while parked or stopped and hold the traction control button in for full three seconds.

Watch speedometer display for message that PCS has been disabled.

Then, try hagrid’s advice on setting the CC.

Yes it is. On the 18+, if you look at the CC stalk, it show 2 options, push once for radar, push and hold for normal CC.
