Radiator Skid Plate is Hititng Motor Mounts

A little background... I bought the truck private party and it didn't come with a skid plate. I found a used skid plate and put it on and found that the driver side motor mount is hitting the skid. I assume that this is not normal. Thoughts?

Is the truck lifted? It looks like the previous owner installed a diff drop. To add the skid plate with a diff drop you need to add spacers to the 3 bolts that attache the skid. (most diff drop kits include the skid spacers & longer bolts)

 

The truck is lifted, spacers up front and leveling kit in the back. Not sure on the diff drop but the spacer suggestion is spot on. I'll have to stop by Ace on my way home and grab some spacers. Thanks for the suggestion!!

 

Ended up using spaces that I had in the garage from when I hung my TV. I didn't use the spacers (obviously) and they were a perfect fit and got the plate hung correctly. I'll have to grab some metal ones for when I take the plate off to do the oil change. I guess that is the difference between a stock plate and the TRD plate (TRD plate has a removable section to access the oil filter).

 

You def have a diff drop. It’s that black thing above the differential bushings.

 

Good to know! I'm new to Tundras so I'm learning all I can. I can tell you quite a bit about Xterras though.

Also if you ever get the pro skid plate you may want to order the spacer kit so it’ll fit over that diff drop. ReadyLift makes one that’s ok.

 

If you ever end up using the skid plate the way it's intended (i.e.getting hit), the spacers (metal or otherwise) aren't gonna hold up as well as you hope.

 

I have no illusions of this holding up to a hefty hit, the skid or the spacers (metal or plastic). I didn't have one to begin with so this is more just peace of mind that an errant rock or other object won't cause some unintended damage. Ideally, I'll get a much heavier duty skid in place sooner rather than later.
