My '08 5.7 supercrew just started with this issue. Drive around no problem, go to start vehicle and it won't crank, nothing. Dash lights up, plenty of battery power. Try again later and it starts. Next time it won't crank and I don't even have dash lights. Check battery power with multimeter, all good, get back in and it starts. Last night, no crank, no dash lights, couldn't even lock the doors with the key fob. This morning I walk out and it fires right up. What's going on?

    Bad ground??
Try cleaning battery terminals, check where negative battery cables go, clean that too.

Is there an aftermarket alarm? I had one give me similar random issues on a past vehicle.

Also insure battery terminal connectors are tight.

How old is your battery? It’s almost acting like it’s not reading it in park for a second. My wife’s Jeep had that issue years ago.

I wondered then could you have a faulty ignition switch in your column?

I did have a new muffler installed 6 days prior to this occurring after no issues for 7 years. Could some type of emissions crap have been altered leading to this issue?

Not sure or how it would. I would get under there and look around for loose or damaged wiring/harnesses.

But if only muffler it should not be near pertinent wires. Would only think O2 sensor involved, if issue then just a running code not affecting starting.

Could have loosened/ damaged the wires/ harness/ connector leading to the starter.

Stopped home over lunch, starts every time I try it now, can't get it to not start? Will crawl around after work if see if I can follow wire harness and look. Would a loose wire to the starter cause me to have no power to the dash though before even trying to crank it? I can understand wiring issues at the starter preventing starting, but not being able to lock the doors with the key fob?

I would check the ground wire to your engine block. When the engine is hot the ground cable end is expanded and makes a good ground, when cools it may not make the ground connection. Had this happen once on my old truck.

Sounds like your battery, they’re like gremlins when dying and hot/cold really effects how they perform. What’s the voltage reading you got? How old is battery?

12.5 volts, if it doesn't start, it's not because it's cranking hard, it won't crank at all. Next time I try it fires up like there's never been an issue.

I have had this issue and later got a crankshaft position sensor code. It’s easily gotten to (aka not under the skid plate) under the truck, I popped it out and wipped it off a little and put back (has a little cover, might be 10mm) and it was fine for a while. But the symptom was exactly that, it would be no start for hours and then suddenly it would just crankover. Also no jumpstart would work either.
