I recently bought my second tundra a 2018 SR5 TSS edition “gulf states” other states the trim closest to a TSS is an XSPX. My first Tundra was a 2015 SR 2wd base model short cab and it was excellent even if it was a little under equipped. I hated the 4.6 because it was under powered for the size of the truck and gave me around 9 mpg average on my commute before I took the exhaust off (yes I know that’s dumb.) so this time around I bought a certified pre owned 2018 Tundra 4x4 with the 5.7 and I’m a ton happier. I get around 13 mpg average on 86 octane and 11 on e-85 ( don’t throw me flack for e-85, I use it because it’s 40 cents cheaper per gallon here in Texas.) I wanted to join the forum because in my research of mods I want to do this forum has helped me a ton. I’m planing on starting with new headlights first (LED) then an exhaust ( dual hideaway turn down resonator tips on a free flow muffler that keeps each bank separate.) A high flow air intake K&N or similar. And a simple behind seat subwoofer install to complement the stock system. I will be looking for guidance and suggestions here and look foreword to the community.

Welcome from SC! Check my math, but are you really saving money by using E-85? Here's my math on a 26-gallon tank:

    26 gallons x $.40/gallon E-85 savings = $10.40 total savings per fillup using E-85
Loss of 2 MPG x 26 gallons = 52 miles lost per tank using E-85
52 miles divided by 13 MPG = 4 gallons lost per tank using E-85
    4 gallons x AAA average Texas cost of regular $2.52/gallon = $10.08

If my math is right, if I were you, I'd stick with 86/87 octane...less wear and tear on your fuel system, even though it is designed to run E-85 (i.e. Flex Fuel). I have Flex Fuel as well, and it's cheaper per gallon, but not cheaper per tank.

You know what! That makes perfect sense. I’ll go for pump gas from now on. It’s not a race car so ethanol really isn’t helping me much.

(Update) I got home at 9pm last night and my work day starts at 5 so I didn’t feel like putting a pic up then.

Are you pulling a trailer? I get 16mpg pretty regularly and can almost pull 19 on a road trip. If I run 75mph I go back to 16. I had a 4.6 in my old sequoia and it got 18/21...

I had a 2007 Nissan Armada that I ran E-85 in all the time. I had to end up getting the catalytic converters replaced EVEN THOUGH it was a Flex Fuel vehicle. It was after the warranty so it cost me a pretty penny. The dealership admitted that E-85 is even harsh on Flex Fuel systems. I decided not to risk it on my Tundra, especially after doing a financial analysis.

    Beautiful ride BTW!!

I commute 3.5 miles to work about 4 times a day back and forth and in that stretch there are 6 stop lights and heavy traffic so I’m allways stop and go. My “15 4.6 was commuting around 60 miles a day and that was stop and go too. I try to not have a heavy foot so this truck lasts me at least 10 years but stop and go traffic kills my mileage.

So after I bought the truck I decided to take it out on the local trails I made sure to not go past 75% throttle because I feel like that’s going to hurt the engine in the long run, but I still had some fun. Hit a few deep and sticky mud holes and never took it out of 2wd because I have stock bfgoodwrench at’s. My problem was when I decided to go for a couple donuts I somehow shifted my rear end to the right about an inch. I’m going on for an alignment but I have to drive every day. And when I break I hear a small click from the rear end. My guess is the drive shaft is protesting because it is slightly off center.
    Any thoughts?

Another slight annoyance is the air intake sound you can hear in the cab. The small whistling from the passenger side of the dash. I heard it in my older 4.6 as well so I’m sure it’s supposed to happen but damn if it doesn’t bother me. I’m guessing that if I update my intake it won’t happen any more and I searched the forum briefly Looking for some info but didn’t find anything. Anybody know what this is?
