What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I had to use a skinny disc and cut the nut off.

 

sawzall and/or angle grinder.

I hated my SB install, ended up using a allen wrench from a folding set as it was just long enough to reach the bolt, but short enough to not hit the LCA. BTW does it matter what side the bump goes on (front or back of LCA)?

For the link, I've always used a vice grip on the washer and an impact, worked for me.

 

It's already broken so take the vise grips and clamp through the rubber or cut it off.

 

I was wondering the same thing. I'm guessing it does not matter.

 

Well I didn't accomplish much tonight. I was going to tackle the steering rack bushing first but the sway bar kept getting in my way. That's how I went down that rabbit hole. Never imagined the sway bar would be such a pain to remove. Just awkward to reach up in there.

Anyways, I'm feeling good about tomorrow. Anxious to get this done and move on to ordering tires and wheels.

 

We expect a 5am start time with early success reports by 7am.

 

I actually didn’t remove the sway bar when I replaced my bushings.

 

Way to make me feel worse.

 

Sounds great!! It’s got a nice deep mellow tone at idle. It’s has some guts now when I get on the the throttle, but best news is that it has no drone and is quiet at cruising speeds.

I left the resonator in... for now. That’s another option to make it a tad louder. But so far I’m content!

I’ll get some sound clips this weekend. Currently it’s pouring and very windy. We are under a tornado watch till midnight...

For those that have done LCA bushings, that brand are you using? OEM (expensive) or aftermarket poly? Wish Whiteline had a set.

 

I was gonna slide under the truck and assess my front end bushings etc. Doing a front end refresh is on the to-do list once finances and work settle down a bit. Then I got distracted, tossed the Thule rack on and loaded the boat up. Apparently I'm going fishing tomorrow. Aw shucks.

 

Oem is what I prefer. Aftermarket is likely fine, but the bushings don’t have the teeth the oem ones do to prevent slippage of the cam bolts on hard impacts

 

I’ve only used their end link bushings, but these are what I was looking at.

Those look promising. They appear to have the teeth for the lower bushing unlike whiteline and energy

 

Not sure if you got your link done yet but in your situation I would have taken the sawzaww to the lower nut and bolt and cut through it. If this ever happens again in different areas of the truck that have spinning joints I've learned that if you put pressure on the ball joint side to keep from spinning it should come out no problem. I would try a C-clamp, or jack for those ones facing up and down

 

OEM here. I had a shop rebuild the front end and we did all new OEM Lower Arms with the bushings purchased together. More expensive but easier than finagling with old arms, cam bolts, pressing etc.

They used an aftermarket cam bolt which was, what they said, ‘better’ than OEM due to allowing proper adjustments for the high dolla alignment. Not sure of the brand.

Been very happy with the work.

 

We expect a report by 7am tomorrow of the brand on those bolts.

 

I’d call shop that did the work but the dude is grumpy and not worth the effort.

 

Not too many options. I think Moog, Delco, and SPC are the only ones that have the cams available.

I'm planning to do the bushings in my lower arms at some point and figure I'll go with SPC.

 

Well. Tundras at the body shop for the next few weeks. New bed is here (ended up paying $316.) old bed is scrapped. Saved the bed crossmembers that weren’t bent (cut them out, will drill the spot welds later).

New bed has a few dings but ultimately it’s clean. Might swap the crossmembers from the old bed since they’re not rusty.

 

Well, I'm balls deep in this. Removing the lower shock bolt is a real bitch. The ball joint kit I rented doesn't even come close to working on our trucks so I'm off to rent one of these.

 

You reusing the upper ball joint? If not a pickle fork works wonders
