Dealer finally realized it was not a brake light problem but no power from the brake controller to the trailer. Now they think it is the trailer controller ECU. Looking at $800. An maybe not a fix. Way to go Toyota not under warranty

Can you check to make sure the trailer relay is present and or good? It's in the fuse box under the hood. It's actually the same relay as the fuel pump. Switch them around. If the truck won't start, it was a bad relay.

Hmmm... They replaced my trailer brake controller ECU last week under warranty but mine is a 2018 with 12k miles. I wonder if they're researching the symptoms and came across the same TSB or tech bulletin on your truck as they did mine. No TSB # was on the dealer paperwork.

O.K. I am confused... They don't want $800.00 for this thing?

Have no clue if the ECU for the brake controller is in the brake control unit or somewhere else. They spent all day confirming what I told them that there was no power to the brake circuit. If it happens again I’m thinking it would be cheaper to just trade the truck in

If it turns out to be that part it is easy to exchange out a new one for the old one.. I upgraded mine to a Tekonsha P3 on my 2017 Tundra and can send you the original that works fine for free.

Literally took the dealer 30 minutes to swap out my Brake controller ECU. It was under warranty but I think they're gouging you on price.

Have already told them to proceed. Thinking most of the cost is from them discovering that there was no power to the brake circuit. Gee I think that was my original complaint. I have friends that have ask me why I have so many tools. Discovered a long time ago in most cases your better off doing it yourself. Just no time right now an wanted to launch the boat this weekend but now I can’t afford the boat gas. Better keep your part may need it

I'd call the service manager and question the pricing on the job at the very least. It's a $300 part and maybe 1 hour of labor to remove and replace. Even if they charged 2 hours you're still hovering around the $500-600 price. $800 is ridiculous. I wouldnt take that lying down.

Doesn't the boat have hydraulic brakes? Do you even need a trailer brake controller?
