Tundra Redesign

Just curious if anyone knows when Toyota will update and redesign the Tundra with a new body style and engine ? My local dealer said maybe 2018 ?

Thanks. Looking to upgrade from my Tacoma. Thinking I'll wait until the new model comes out.

 

Some people would advise against getting the 1st model of a new version truck, especially if they do indeed make changes to the motor.

Obviously Tundra is the most reliable out there so there isn't TOO much to worry about (I'd say the 2014's were excellent for being the 1st version of a new model), but still something to consider.

With the excellent resale value of these trucks you could also consider grabbing a good deal on one of the 2016 models while there are still some left, or even a 2017. Could always trade up once the new ones come out.

Plus it isn't guaranteed that anything will change yet, IDK how much faith I would put into an "anonymous source".

 

5.7L engine/trans has been around since 2007. Proven engine/design. the 2014+ are more like a gen 2.5. mostly esthetics and interior.
Now if 2018 is the "real" gen 3 then everything is bound to change but I would be hesitant to buy 1st or 2nd year..look at the new tacoma..plenty of issues. Granted not GM level but still. So like others said, grab a 2016 or 17 or else you might wait til 2020..my 0.02

I know this may not be a trend, but sure looks like one.

I figure the new, redesigned BODY for Toyota will come out in 2020 or 2021. It seems to me, Toyota redesigns their tundras every 7 years. Starting with the first gen (00-06) to the second gen (07-13) and finally, to the third (14-?)

Like I said, two instances don't make a trend but it is where it's pointing.

 

i dunno, for the gen 3 tacoma, it was body and new engine/trans at the same time.

 

Not saying it couldn't or isn't going to happen. Just saying what I've figured would happen....could be wrong

Yep I said that in post #8. No idea with engine, tranny, etc. that hasn't been changed since 2nd gen

What were, if any, the mid-cycle refreshes on the Gen 2s? I'm not too familiar with them, other than there wasn't any significant body / aesthetics changes from 07-13. I wouldn't think there were be much Gen 3 mid-cycle refresh for 18 either.

 

Yeah. Got thinner, tweaks here and there but nothing worth mentioning.

 

Maybe our european counter parts will share a diesel version truck with us in the near future. I wouldn't be mad about it.

All things considered. I would love to see the Hilux introduced to the US market.

Speculation out there have pointed to a 5 liter turbocharged diesel V8 manufactured by Cummins for the Tundra. Which sounds awesome to me... personally. There have been R&D reports of Toyota working with Cummins but that's about it!

 

Thank so for the info. Thinking about a 2016 limited. Not sure if it makes sense to get a 2017 since it's basically the same truck as the 2016. Hopefully can get my local dealer down a few bucks on the 2016. Thanks again.
