Hey i'm new to the the Tundra forums, I'm looking to get a 2nd gen tundra with a 4.7 ( There has been 2 different recorded million mile trucks is the main reason why i'm looking into them.) and they fit the budget a little bit better. The thread says it all i'm looking for feed back from experienced owners from a reliability and drivabilty stand point. Thanks guys.

Solid engine, but is under powered in this big body, plus you'd have to deal with timing belt maintenance as opposed to timing chains on the 4.6 and 5.7...

I have no complaints other than I should've got the 5.7 hahaha. Seriously though it's been great so far (Knock) The only 2 major issues I've had are the Air Injection Pumps and driveshaft, which were replaced @ Toyota's expense :D.

I have an LX470 which is the same 4.7, great motor, very smooth, lasts forever, however it's way down on power, esp if you use your truck to tow or haul heavy stuff. Mine is used for offroading and overlanding so power is not required, i have my Tundra 5.7 for power if i need it.

Would avoid timing belt engine if possible, costly maintenance item. 4.6 & 5.7 have timing chains, get changed less frequently.
Only matter of time before we see a 4.6 or 5.7 get a million miles.

Welcome from S.W. Oregon. You really need to keep tabs on miles when you have a timing belt, I have a friend that owns a Highlander with the 3.3 VVT engine, same as our Sienna engine, his belt broke and he spent a lot of money and since we have the same engine, we took our Sienna into Toyota service and had a new belt and water pump installed. The Carfax we had printed out didn't mention any belt change and I wasn't about to take any chances, service department said it was due so it could have saved us a bunch of cash. Those million mile Tundra's had the 4.7 engine, but like Trooper2, I suspect that it won't be long and a 4.6 or 5.7 will make the million mile mark, I'm really impressed that our 5.7 at 245,000 runs like new, definitely if you take care of them, they will probably serve you a lifetime. I would have liked to have owned ours from the beginning, same with the 2006 Sienna, would have saved a lot of headaches from the Fords we've owned that had far less miles on them.

I have a 07 with the 4.7l. The motor has been rock solid, but yes it is down on power compared to the 5.7. It gets almost the exact same mileage as a 5.7 so keep that in mind also.
