It once took me 3 hours to drive 30 miles down Interstate 81 along Tug Hill. I was up in Watertown on business and trying to get back down to Syracuse. Left Watertown at Noon, sailed smoothly until Pulaski, hit lake effect. Couldn't see past the front of my car. Could not stop for fear of being rear ended, couldn't go faster than 5-10 mph for fear of running into someone else. It cleared up around Central Square area and I found myself right behind a line of about 3 miles of cars. I didn't know there was a single car around me for 3 hours. People will think that this is an exaggeration, but I am being totally honest. It was the scariest 3 hours of driving in my life.

 

I've definitely "driven" up and down 81 in 1st gear, 4 low with the foot off the gas and brake for 3-4 hours praying that my gps was close enough. Definitely scary.

 

Quick question-

How does this hold up to weekly/ bi-monthly undercarriage washes?
Is it just one of those things where "it's better than not having it on there" or will I be Re-applying after every wash?

Forgot to add that I have been living in Syracuse area my entire life and have been driving in the snow for 24 years. Our average annual snowfall is around 120 inches a year in the City of Syracuse. However, the Tug Hill area between Watertown and Syracuse is a whole other animal. The snowfall there is crazy due to the lake effect bands. I don't like to drive that route in the winter.

 

It's not permanent, but if you just hose everything off with a garden house, it should last the season. If you were to go under there with a pressure washer, soap and a brush it would for sure strip it. I would coat the entire underside (minus the exhaust obviously) really good before it snows, give it a few days of normal driving to heat up and creep into all the nooks and crannies and then just lightly rinse off the road salt whenever you wash it.

How does everyone feel about a professional undercoating spray to prevent rust? I've never done it on any past vehicles but I always bought new cars every 3-4 years. I think we're going to keep the tundra for much longer though.

 

I don't have any personal experience from a professional job, but I have heard on here as well as other forums that fluid film is still the best because of its ability to creep into all the crevices.
