What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

It might be important to find out if it's an Rs3000 or Rs3200. My 99 taco had 3000 and my 03 taco had 3200. Both modules were located on behind the driver kick panel. Maybe the tundra is similar location?

 

Yeah I checked in between torrential rain storms here. I’ve found out my hard copies from the original sale only say ‘Keyless Entry’ System. Not ‘RS3000’ as the link I put up.

My ‘Keyless Entry’ only allows ‘keyless entry’. No other features available. I’m good with it.

 

So it's likely the rs3200. In that case there's a wire harness you can undo under the dash that will turn it into a fully functional alarm. I did it on my 03. I'll try to find you the link. Granted it would be on a Tacoma, the hardware and wires should still match up.

Yeah I found a wire under the dash and I unplugged it.

 

This weekend:

Zip tied my inner fenders to the bumper. Temporary until I get front armor, then I will probably just take them out. Did a weekend trip over to Bears Ears National Monument and ran some pretty cool roads. Discovered some new rub spots with the Pros (more tread than my old tires) as well as a leak on the 4WD actuator? (Is that what it is?) Time to do some work on the CV joints, the boot is slinging oil and it's starting to squeak. I may do it myself for the XP points if it's not too hard.

 

I did my CV when it started doing the same thing
Wasnt to hard with basic tools, just take off the four bottom bolts for the spindle and you can slide the CV out

Just angle your truck on one side so nothing leaks out your front diff. And dont mangle the axle nut dust cover when removing it.i did and had to replace it.

Using 1/16 ABS Plastic. Just about done with side number 1....

I've thought about removing them but they kind of help hold the stock bumper on so I'll probably leave them for now.

That's a good idea! I was thinking about doing something like that but was wondering how aluminum would work. I didn't think of using sheet plastic.

 

Just ordered OME rear shocks from Toytec

 

Got the fender liners done. They weren’t too bad. I used 1/16” ABS Plastic. I ordered it from TAPPlastics.com. You can order any size and cut to the dimensions you want. I ordered 10x55” which was plenty.

Passenger Side was a tad more difficult due to the snorkel. Had to leave a small gap but added another vertical piece to block the little channel area to the headlights. (Next pic)



Driver Side. I used a heat gun to do some pushing up / massaging of the plastic to gain some extra clearance... ABS is easy to work with


2nd Project was to wire Wheel and paint my Deaver Leaf Springs. They did not like the winter and salt. So about 45 mins of wire wheeling to get most of the surface rust / dirt off and another 30-60 minutes of priming / painting. I left the leafs on and just used cardboard to block over spray. Hopefully this stuff will last. We will see...

I took my truck to America's Tire for a long overdue rotation and balance. I noticed they had to jack up the rear end to get the tires all the way off the ground.

 

The guys at the Topanga location know my truck well.

Dont have pictures yet But ran to a junk yard to grab a bed off a black tundra, but it was sold before I got there. Anyways i got every single other part i needed/ few extras.

Parts found:
Hvac controller
second fog light switch and pigtail
door handle trim
avs vent visors front and rear
Oem Trailer hitch w/ all hardware.

 

Were you rubbing the frame(inside) or back near the mudflaps? I'm looking at the tire comparison and the 295/75/16 is .4" shorter but .4" wider. I'm trying to figure out if it's the width that is more likely to cause problems over the height.

Didn't you change sizes later to something smaller?

 

I kept the 295s
Had to remove some plastic and cut out a decent section of the pinch weld.
Otherwise I could not turn.
The 33.4's really fill in the wheel wells nicely.
But I'd really like to see someone try those 33.8's
I rub frame on full lock. But i have some spacers I want to thru on and see if I'd need to trim anymore.

 

I don't mean to sound negative but that seems like a ton of rust for such a short period of time. Looks like you just installed them in October. Honestly, I was considering just replacing my leaf packs at some point but this makes me want to avoid Deaver. Seems like they didn't do anything in the way of rust prevention.

 

That’s what @Rheywood456 gets for leaving the rust free zone.

 

I mean I could understand them looking like that after a few years but damn. That was a healthy amount of rust for 6 months of use. It looked like they were actually pitted, not just surface rust. For what they cost I'd be upset.

 

I’m right there with you. I was not happy. I just wish I would’ve known this was going to happen so I could’ve painted them before I installed them. It would’ve been a much easier and thorough job. (Wire wheeling all the crap off wasn’t the most fun...)

I did a few coats so hopefully this stuff holds up.
