Just bought this 08 tundra 5.7 with 128,000km. Didn’t even check the oil level on first look at truck. on second look just before buying it I did check but don’t remember anything odd sticking out. Long story short. After putting about 100 km on it I checked oil level and it was over filled about a litre or more. I smelt it and it does have a mild fuel smell I supposed. I have since done an oil change at right level and am monitoring situation. Since I barely drive it and it may take a while to test I was wondering if anyone knows any details of possible oil level gaining? And how to test or any information would be great. Yes a little cart before the horse, but I am very anxious for the worst case scenario.
    Thanks

Just make sure you check it as per the manual. Warm up, let sit 5 min then check.

I think you are doing the right thing. Fresh oil change and monitor it. A rising oil level has me interested, gasket maybe or he just did an oil change before you looked at the car and over filled it? Does it run hot?

I think that the best thing you could've done would've been to send a sample of the used oil in for analysis. They would have been able to tell you if it had been contaminated. Now about all you can do is what you're doing...monitor.

Actually those of us that work in the sciences use SI units like the rest of the world.

    OP......My vote is on overfill

I know it is the dumbest thing ever. The military, science, a lot of manufacturers....

We should just switch. They can do it gradually but it needs to be done

Also I was just being a smart ass to the first smart ass

    Prob was overfilled.

If it get worse might be worth a fuel test. Friend of mine got gas at a station which had accidentally filled their gas tanks with diesel. After a few miles looked as though his oil was two quarts high, truck was running fine. Luckily the dilution was low enough that it didn’t cause any known lasting issues draining the tank and an oil change didn’t sort. He put another 50k on the truck before trading.
