So, I bought my 2016 TRD Crewmax last fall with 40k miles for 28k from the original owner. It was a pretty sweet deal and I loved the truck the instant I drove it. (Divorce and house purchase where the seller had to pay off his original truck loan and wanted to cash out) I had the rear bumper recall completed at the selling dealership, no mention of the details of any warranty beyond the basic warranty.
I got a call for my 45k service from the dealership (I do my own service as much as possible) so I phoned them back, to check on what they will do and how this might affect the warranty, etc. I tell the service manager I love the truck and would consider an extended warranty, blah blah, to see what the cost might be.
Then he tells me the truck already has a “platinum” warranty that covers it to 100k miles and or until 2023, and that it’s transferred to the new owner.
I am stunned, because the seller never mentioned this warranty and Kaboom there it is!
Is this a good warranty? Anybody have knowledge or experience with it? I am a little shocked and thinking maybe he got it wrong. I arranged to bring it it for the once over next week and plan to get the documentation on the warranty- he says it applies to the VIN number and that is all I really need. Dang. I feel like I just won a lottery

It's a good warranty. A few weeks ago my window switch, regulator, and a fuse went out . It took then 2 days to fix it, they gave me a free rental and the repair was free with zero deductible. All under warranty.

Dang. That’s good. The value of the truck just went up! It’s a keeper!

mambo143... Congrats on your new acquisition last fall.. You hopefully got all the truck manuals and misc stuff that we usually keep in the glove box.. The platinum service card should be in there somewhere and will show you all the covered components for your truck...

I read some supercharger parts are covered. I’d be foolish to NOT get a SC and waste that coverage!

Yes, my supercharger is covered...but mine was installed back in 2014 when Toyota sold the TRD S/C...its specifically called out as being covered under the warranty as long as it was installed by Toyota...which it was.

It's a good warranty if you plan to keep the truck awhile. I always caution my friends not to buy warranties until the factory warranty is almost expired because #1 theres no requirement you must purchase it up front. #2 you can usually shop around and find a much better price for it than what theyll offer in finance when you're signing. Dont fall for the "it'll only cost you $xx more per month on your payment"...

#3 A lot can happen in 36k miles and 3 years. You may wreck it or trade it before then

When you do shop for one, I recommend going for the best one Platinum 8year / 125k miles. And you should be able to find it for less than $1200-$1300.....theyll try to stick you for 2 grand plus....dont believe it.

Agreed on waiting and not financing.

I’ll be at 32k by June. Figured $1575 for Platinum 7yrs/125k (6yrs left) was for me a no brainer.

By that time I’ll just buy a nice car and drive truck less.

Another option is if you are selling at say 100k miles your truck is attractive as it has manufacturers warranty. Worth more

I went back and looked...I bought when I was at 34K but the Toyota Platinum warranty defaults back to the purchase date of the truck. So the advantage to waiting to buy the warranty is if you decide not to keep the vehicle longer than the 3/36.

I will probably exceed time vs the mileage. Just picked up a Golf R as my daily.

Do not forget the advantage of being able to shop the price.
