Been trying to maintain quality product replacement in the Tundra and as expected, the truck won't break down. While I'm happy with that of course, I'm not willing to tear into things just for my curiosity.

Does anyone have any experience with the multi generation platforms of the Tundra on the repair side?
Where does Denso dominate the OEM replacement side of things compared to Aisin?

My filters seem to be Denso. Aisin apparently has the water pump. Any logic to any of this?

My observation is that Denso primarily makes OEM electrical materials such as electronics, ignition components, environmental switching valves, etc. with some specialized aftermarket parts supply. Denso is similar to the old AC-Delco division of GM. Aisin seems to concentrate on the non-electrical mechanical components, but I think I can remember some examples of cross-over. Aisin is an OEM supplier, but appears to be more heavily into aftermarket parts than Denso IMO.

Either company/division may be an OEM supplier for those types of parts...for replacement, you can't wrong choosing either IMO. Aisin sells a lot of Toyota parts in the aftermarket, but I have seen no evidence that the aftermarket parts they sell are any different than those they sell to Toyota.

In the case of spark plugs, as an example, Toyota once used both Denso or NGK as OEM. Back in my 22RE days, I believed the NGK were better plugs, but for our V8s, I have heard good owner reports about the Densos compared to NGK. I would stick with those two brands for spark plugs.

    I can confirm that.

I'd use either Denso or Aisin, with the exception of Denso aftermarket filters. There is a visible and obvious difference in quality between the Denso-made OEM Toyota air filters and the Aftermarket Denso filters. I'd not going to make the statement that they don't filter as well, as they might, but the rubber gasket on the air filters are not even close.

Aisin is Toyota. The company was founded by Toyoda himself. They are the OEM supplier to a lot of the Japanese brands. No wonder most Japanese vehicles are so reliable. IMG_2540.jpg
