Skid Plate Install Issue

so while waiting for my new ball joints to come in the mail, I tried to install the skid plate I picked up from @InfernoPRO. I can’t get them on and assuming it’s due to a piece that’s from my lift kit? Can’t get the front to sit all the way up. Do I just need longer hardware?

 

What lift do u have?

 

bought it from the dealer with it - not sure but I'm pretty sure I have Tuff Country UCAs

 

Probably gonna need spacers and longer bolts. Think ready lift sells a kit

 

It does indeed look like I have a diff drop - just ordered the kit. Will probably just leave the full skid plate off until it comes

 

If you don’t have a diff drop installed, it should fit without spacers. From the pictures it looks like you don’t have it lined up all the way. The ears on the outside of the skid should be on the outside of your sway bar brackets. Make sure that the bolts in the front are aligned perfectly with the holes in the frame. Took me a little bit of messing around with it before it would go in straight. I ended up laying on my back under the truck with my fee towards the bed. Then I could essentially use both hands to line it up while my leg supported the back end.

 

interesting, i checked and i do have a diff drop, but it also looks like i might not have been lined up - i thought i looked and it was that way on both sides. not sure i want to get under there again with all the other work i have left to do today on the truck

 

At first I thought the block above the sway bar might be aftermarket and the main issue but it looks like this diff drop spacer might be actually the main culprit.

 

Remove the sway spacer. And use some washers to accommodate the diff drop. Or remove the diff drop

 

If I did that I suspect having my 3" coil spacer would be a problem. I don't think I want to remove pieces of my lift which is now necessary for my 35s, here's hoping the readylift kit solves my issues.

 

Yep, the skid plate spacer will solve your problems. Easy fix. Just a pain to get half way through and find out you need another.
On a side note, not sure why hardware comes with the spacer kit but if you end up not needed the stock, middle bolt (5mm Allen), let me know.. I need a new one and don’t want to buy a whole new hardware kit.

Buy or fabricate some spacers for the gap. Buy some aluminum spacers and drill them out for the bolts

 

I bought the readyLift TRD pro skidplate spacer kit. Works well

 

Same - worked out great. I had the same critiques I saw someone else voice - would have been nice to have more instructions and for the price I think having a middle square support structure like the stock it comes with would have been nice other than a little spacer. Seems like $50 is a little steep for some longer hardware and some spacers but I'm no expert and it's not all that much anyways. Happy to pay it for ease of not having to measure and buy separate pieces.
