    Hi folks,

I have a 2019 Tundra, CrewMax, TRD 4x4. I am trying to determine whether I have automatic braking?! I have used the cruise control on the highway, and I can confirm adaptive cruise control works. However, during city driving, I have never had the brake automatically engage (car or pedestrian detection), even on instances where my previous car (Subaru Outback), automatic braking kicked in. I do drive carefully, so I try not to put myself in those positions, but it will be nice if I can confirm I do have the system in place, in case of emergency.

    Kory.

TSS is included on all 2019 models, the pre-collision system will prompt you with audio and visual alerts and "may" automatically apply the brakes (according to toyota).

It’s an assist. It is no way ever to replace you as a driver and safe driving habits.

I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
It can standard with my 2019 TRD Sport. I don’t really know how to test it unless you want to play chicken with another object; which I will highly discourage you from. You’ll find out soon enough if it works or not.

It will. I have had it kick in once as an error, and once when I was not paying attention and traffic stopped right in front of me.

I have a '19 Limited and I can attest that the automatic braking works very well when using cruise control and traveling over about 30 mph. It does not come into play at lower speeds, and that is probably why you did not notice it during city driving.

You can adjust the sensitivity in your vehicle settings, maybe its set on low.

    From https://www.toyota.com/safety-sense/discover/feature/pcspd

    Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection
Using an in-vehicle camera and a radar sensor or a laser sensor that are designed to help detect a vehicle or a pedestrian in front of you, the Pre-Collision System 43 with Pedestrian Detection 53 (PCS w/PD) is designed to help you mitigate or avoid a potential collision. If the system determines that a frontal collision is likely, it prompts you to take action using audio and visual alerts. If you notice the potential collision and apply the brakes, PCS w/PD may apply additional force using Brake Assist (BA). 44 If you don’t brake in time, it may automatically apply the brakes to reduce your speed, helping to minimize the likelihood of a frontal collision or reduce its severity.

It it appears that I 'may' have been wrong when I said that it does not apply brakes when driving below 30 MPH since TSS apparently 'may' apply the brakes. All those 'may' statements are probably to protect Toyota from litigation if things don't work as expected.

I have a 2019 TSS (Gulf region package I think) SR5 CM. It has TSS and brake assist. And it scares the hell out of you when it happens...... Mine has kicked in when a car is turning right into a parking lot in front of me and I'm coasting to give them time to clear the lane. Evidently Toyota says I get too close sometimes.

Thank you all for your comments. I think one day, in an empty parking lot, I will experiment with this, using some empty boxes or something like that.

You 'may' actually be right. I use the dynamic cruise control on the highway all the time, and it certainly applies the brakes - sometimes too hard for my liking. In slower traffic it does not do that. The dynamic cruise control at higher speeds and the pre-collision system at lower speeds are two different things (although it might use the same hardware and shared software) it acts differently at high speed vs low speed. At low speed I get the red warning light and alarm, but I have never had it apply the brakes in those situations, even when I am uncomfortably close to the vehicle in front of me.

I have had the "BRAKE" alert on me when there wasn't a car directly in front of me but there was a car the next lane over on the right banking left on the highway. I turned that sh** off, that was scary. I'm just glad it didn't apply the brakes.

I guess all this technology stuff is good, but nothing beats due diligence! I just wanted to know what I am dealing with here, so I'm not surprised when something unexpected happens.
