Yea! It does! It kicks the Tundra's butt in almost every category...

    Except durability....and reliability...and price...

One thing we KNOW is turbo charged engines have shorter life spans and are prone to leaks and other issues. You will NOT get more than 200K miles (more like 120K) without a serious issue

If you're the type who buys and trades every 3 years a Ford can be a viable alternative. If you want to keep your truck long term... well ...the jury is still out on that.

Some will argue even short term ownership of Fords can be problematic. My sample size is too small to take overly seriously but the fact an F150 made a LIFE LONG Ford enthusiast condemn them concerned me....

I was down to F150 or Tundra. A similar F150 package, an FX4, was $11,000 more than my TRD Off Road 4x4... I still think the TRD is just better in this category as well.

The people who get it I feel really bad for. That does suck. But it beats a broken down engine on the side of the road. One of the reasons I’m happy to of bought a 10 year platinum warranty. Hopefully whatever happens reveals itself within that time frame. Even with the added cost of the extended warranty, it’s still much cheaper than any other brand comparable package.

have to agree with the anti-turbo sentiments for long term ownership... (except if 911!)
but as each manufacturer tries to do more with less, it's something we cant seem to escape, sucks. at least NA V8s are still on the table as an option in 1/2 tons where they want to push V6s.

Turbo's can work and last for a long time. Toyota has plenty of experience using turbo diesels in its overseas truck applications, as do the domestic companies with North American 3/4 and 1 ton diesels.

The issue is that you can't cheap out with that component...it needs to be built and designed to last for a long time. As with any mechanical part, it will eventually need to be serviced or replaced, but 200k-300k mile intervals are not unheard of if the component and overall engine is well designed and built using quality components.

I don't know if there are additional considerations when using a turbo with a gasoline engine versus with a diesel. I am intrigued by the fact that while turbo gasolines are becoming increasingly common in the midsized and 1/2 ton segments, the OEM's currently don't seem to have any interest in putting them into the 3/4 ton and 1 ton segments.

Had an F150 Lariat with the 5.0 V8, I went to do an oil change in late February of 2018 and noticed there was engine coolant in the oil. Had my Tundra in March 2018. Wont ever go back

Well, it depends on how many miles were on that Ford:devil:. I've been told by F-150 owner's that after 50,000 miles or so, it's just expected that there'll be something going-up on it. They were always quick to assure me, "it happens to every truck". To the last person, it's always been from someone, who's NEVER owned anything but Fords.o_O
