More 1794 than Platinum?

    Hi all,

I've been letting my fingers do the walking to check out available Tundras, primarily looking at saving a little by searching for 2017-2018 used models. Due to seat comfort, I've limited myself to the Platinum or 1794 models.

One thing I've noticed is a significantly greater number of 1794s than Platinums available on various sites. The primary source I'm using is cargurus, but I'm looking elsewhere, too.

Anyway, what's up with that? Is Toyota making more of the 1974 editions, hence their greater number coming up used, or do people end up disliking something about the 1794 and dump it sooner than a Platinum?

The 1794 seems to be little different than the Platinum, so if it's not production numbers, I can only imagine their reason for getting rid of it would be the interior color. I happen to prefer darker interiors myself, so I understand avoiding the 1794 in the first place, but quickly getting rid of a vehicle after a purchase only due to the interior color seems a little unwise to me.

However, I occasionally come across a 1794 that catches my interest due to price or low mileage, hence my query. Am I missing something or is it just a production numbers thing?

    TIA!

I bought a Platinum instead of 1794 due to the color or interior and all its upgraded comfort. I too prefer a darker shade interior. My friend has a 1794 and looks great but not my cup of tea.

Lots of 1794s out west/Texas, plenty of Platniums in the citys. I looked at 4 used Platniums vs 1 1794 before I got mine. I wanted black leather and less chrome.

Bout to say, it looked really "deep" for a dip.

Sorry for the thread jack, OP.

When I was shopping, I came across more 1794s than Platinums. Ultimately I went with the Platinum due to personal preference - took me a while to find exactly what I wanted within a reasonable distance. Had to fly to get mine.

One dealer told me that the platinum is slightly better then 1974 edition. As it has few more options. Although I’m not sure if this is true or not.

The carbon fiber over lays has a clear coating over the print and won’t scratch and is easy to clean. I installed it the week I got my truck so almost 2years and still looks brand new! I will post pics of the center counsel area as I have a back up due to that being a high traffic used area and wanted to have extra. Just have to go through my pile of tundra stuff.....stay tuned

All are overlays. I’ve done vinyl wraps on my previous Tundra (2013/SR5) full hood, both bumpers, grill and door panel. Lots of trials and errors before I was happy with my work and wanted to try something else. So far almost 2years and still looks brand new

the dealer ship i bought my tundra.. longo toyota.. largest dealership in los angeles.. only had 1 platinum on their lot.. and like 8 1794s.. went with that platinum as it had all the options and color i wanted.. it was perfect..

but i still prefer the platinum over the 1794 as i dont like the colors it had.. and hate the chrome grill and orange interior.. otherwise its the same car with all the same features.

Yes you need to clean the surface really good and apply an “adhesion promotor” prior to placing overlay. They sell it also
