Only problem is the firmware or software update and calibration cant be done without being hooked up to Toyota's tech system? Or am I missing something?

If you are running stock height and tires more power to you make the appointment. But those of use who are lifted and/or running anything over a 275/55/20 we won't get any help. A simple a DIY to keep the sensor from acting up since my truck is working just fine. I don't want any firmware done if all of a sudden doesn't work since they wouldn't calibrate it anyways. I have no desire to take all of the suspension off as MY truck is functioning still. Plus I don't even have usable stock wheels/tires anymore without needing to spend some money getting things mounted and balanced.

So I bought my truck 3 months ago today. It already had dealer installed lift and wheels before I bought it. Toyota is not going to allow the dealer to touch it?

I'd take it back to the dealer you bought it from... they will probably have a hard time denying you. However did you read all of the fine print you signed off on when you purchased? You may have signed something relieving them of responsibility for the aftermarket parts. Never know...they can be slippery.

I wonder if those of us that will be denied coverage would be better off complaining to NHTSA.

If you call Toyota, your words will most likely fall on deaf ears.

Letting the government know that Toyota will not perform a safety recall due to water ingress of an electrical component on the basis of the owner having performed a modification to a mechanical suspension component, may be a better alternative.

Toyota will have to pursue a completion percentage for the government to be satisfied with their efforts.

I completely agree with you! Toyota needs to make this right. It’s unreasonable to have to bring the truck in stock for a fix when they admit that the modification has nothing to do with causing the problem.

I’d love to hear from anyone that’s aware of something like this happening before. We’re protected as consumers when it comes to modifying our vehicles. Toyota is suppose to prove the mod caused the issue and they can’t. It’s Toyota’s fault for not being able to do this fix properly on a lifted vehicle. If the mod caused the problem I would have nothing to complain about.

I also hold Toyota and the dealerships responsible for not letting consumers know that you can’t put a bigger tire on the truck and still use the PCS system. I did find in my manual that it states the PCS should be turned off if you have larger tires than recommended. However it doesn’t say that larger tires will cause harm to the system and that you can’t have them on the truck. That’s why they should have to fix the issue with or without stock tires and lift. IMO.

I would still complain to corporate. They will just listen and do nothing but it’s nice to get it off your chest and let them know how you feel. If they’re flooded with complaints they’ll get the picture.

So will they tell you not to load your truck or put a trailer on the back? that would affect the system more than a lift. It's horseshit.

Doesn’t the manual tell you to turn it off if your towing or hauling?

I called Corporate again... I’ve been calling every day. I asked for a letter that says they’re denying to do the recall on my Truck because of the lift and the larger tires. They Said they don’t do that and won’t do it!! How FN shady Is that!?
They said they have it on record to see but that I can’t see it.

My dealership is going to print something up for me. I’m guessing it’s just the bulletin that says not to do the work on modified Trucks. I’m going to put it everywhere on Social Media once I get it.
I’ll let potential customers know that by modifying your truck Toyota will screw you even though the mod has nothing to do with the problem.

I also contacted Ford and GMC about their crash avoidance systems on trucks. I spoke to service guys... I figured I’d get a more honest answer. According to them, lifts and larger tires have no affect on the system. No recalibration needed. They said they have yet to see a problem With a lift or larger tires. Maybe someone here can verify if that’s true about the system not needing recalibration. If it’s true it would be a much better system suited for Trucks than the POS Toyota has put out.
