What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I’m running a set up front and in the rear. They’re helpful on those hard hits.

If you Offroad with weight in the rear, you will bottom out....

 

Looks like you have hardly any travel before you bottom out in the front
And what leafs are you running in the rear? Lift? Price?

 

Yes, but you can run one superbump per side and leave the original in one of the slots.

They compress way more than you would think. They aren't a hard pad like the OEM, they get more firm as they compress, so where you see his arm about touching there is hardly any resistance yet.

The ones we got are for Tacoma, they fit perfectly fine on a first gen.

The Superbumps are designed to compress to stock bump stock height.

They are very close to the LCA at all times. But I’m also at about 2.75” up front...

In the rear I’m running Deavers. I’m running the Overland Expedition HD Leaf Pack sold by Archive Garage. They’re awesome. They give about 3” empty and 2” of lift with 500lbs in the rear.

Key takeaways on these Superbumps for our 1st Gens. Add or correct, as needed.

1) Upfront: We only need one per side and they mount on the most upfront position. Keep the old bump in place on the rear position.

2) No warranty as they are not supported. Buy the Tacoma version.

3) They can be angle cut to fit once installed.

4) No spacers needed. Jack front up and use pipe wrench? to remove. Installs with allen key.

 

Cut off and replaced the Catalytic Converter shield bolts which were rusted and about to fall off. Used the old Valve Cover leftover bolts and bought some new nuts and washers as the replacements. Solid.

 

Interesting that they didn't tell me this yesterday. Just told me the ones for the tacoma and 2nd gen tundra are essentially the same and that either will work. Thanks for sharing.

 

Been waiting 3 full weeks (21 days) for these HR SuperNovaV.4 bulbs. They are moving warehouses etc. Got tired of waiting and ordered the Katanas (supposedly the same bulb per one member here and several big gurl reviewers) for $50.

I dislike cancelling the HR order but they still couldn’t give me a delivery date. Plus, they’re $179 vs. $50?

Its a gamble here. They look the same. Perform the same. Packaged the same. Made at same factory. Same Cree tech. But... are they?

Anyone in here with the 5 speed ever experiance a weird shift flare when its going from 3rd to 4th.. mines got a nasty flare at light throttle when cold... going to swap the trans filter and reset the trans memory... but i dont like dis. wonder if i can get work to warranty the trans since it was replaced last may... (it was actaully installed by me when he had all the work done to it..)

 

I’m definitly leaning towards the ome setup after riding in my buddies 4runner with them.

 

when I buy a GX470 I'll be going OME after riding in a 2nd gen Tacoma with em. Way smooth and affordable.

Saw a 4.7 water pump in box on craigslist for $80. Good deal or not?

 

Can you be sure it's new? When mine was removed I requested to keep the old part and the water pump looked fine. Didn't look like a part that had 150k miles on it.

You'll be pleased I think. We'll see what the long term longevity is, but up front they're good enough that I've installed them in the wife's 4Runner and they're even better out of her projectors.

Ordered more parts today. Other than coolant, I have everything I need to start the job. Really can't find any videos on replacing the idler pulley and tensioner so that's going to be interesting.

 

Opened up the Radiator Cap for the first time since installation last week. The new action on it is very noticeable. It has a little suction break coming from that bottom seal (when opened air temp cold). The old one I did not notice that anymore.

 

What coolant do you plan to use?

 

I'm going to go with Zerex Asian blend. Confirmed it's got the right ingredients Toyota recommends. Basically the same as Aisin but without shipping costs.

Do you think I should buy 3 gallons to be safe?

 

3 should cover ya. If your doing all the fun job of the water pump, drain the block too. There’s plugs in each side. I usually get the passenger side one and it makes no mess when pulling the pump then

 

Thanks. No water pump this time. Any advice on doing the idler pulley and tensioner? I can't find much info online so I assume it can't be that hard or many people would be asking for help.
