Was seeing some folks say they are getting increased mileage in beast mode, got me wondering what octane everyone uses and why?

Can't see where tow/haul mode would increase mileage except maybe when you are towing.
If higher shift points equaled better gas mileage then Toyota would make that setting the default one to get a higher # on the window sticker.
Higher octane = slower burn rate to eliminate pre-detonation (knocking).
Higher octane enables more ignition advance. It does NOT add any more energy to the gasoline.
High performance engines love high octane because at high revs earlier ignition allows more time for the fuel to burn before getting pushed out of the exhaust. Doubt it helps the mileage on a top fuel dragster much though...

Increased mileage in beast mode?? i am no expert but when the tow/haul goes on and traction control goes off i tend to drive like an ass hat...not helpful for MPG's

Similar threads prior, seemed most stick with 87 and is what the manual specifies.

Okay, I just tried out Beast Mode and I have to say "I Love It". Not something I would do everyday for normal driving but it did get the guy with the HEMI to turn his head when the light changed. LMAO!

Push the tow/haul button then at a stop push the auto lsd once then push and hold it and you will have all the traction control nannies off and your truck will behave like a V8...be careful she will be touchy off the line

I guess it's like the ol' Quadrajet in the chevys, got good mileage if you keep your foot out of it.

Had a '67 Camaro that came with one but I upgraded to a Holley 650 DBL Pumper. Much smoother!

The RQJs are finicky to tune. I also have trouble keeping my foot out of it but I get about 8MPG on it...guess that's to be expected with a 6.6L. Sometimes I wish it weren't #s matching so I wouldn't be so averse to changing out the parts.

It’s kind of what came in between fuel injection and a carburetor.

But we have fond memories, flip the breather over and it was like ram air....and that sound.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    Three times I get better gas mileage;
1.) slow rolling past the 5.0.
2.) after every oil change (where I always clean the air filter and mafs)
3.) when I got 20 miles til 'E' and the exit is 21 miles away

Driving in S-mode can help...can also hurt if in beast mode and the @dirtydeeds exhaust is rumbling. :anonymous:

When I had my Jeep I saw someone complain that they got tickets in a school zone and and a construction zone. I told them that’s the only place you can get it going fast enough to get a ticket. Not a problem in the Tundra. I started using cruise control as much as possible to keep me out of trouble.

Yeah I put a T-56 6 speed in mine back in '98. 1800 rpm at 55 with 3.73 gears = 26 mpg! Kept the stock console and shifter, only way to tell it wasn't the original Muncie was to crawl under.
