I'm new to this and am looking for input regarding operation of the Automatic HVAC system. Hoping I can get some feedback.

Looking for others that have problems with the 3rd Gen automatic HVAC. My 2018 has a mind of it's own. You cannot control the temp and the system does not regulate the air temp coming out of the vents. One example: when set on defrost and feet mode at 70 degrees, the air temp coming out the vent climbs to 125 degrees and after an hour of driving it might drop to 110 degrees. Similar problem when you dial down the temp to 60 degrees. The temperature of the air coming out of the vents dropped to 43 degrees. The outside ambient temperature was 46 degrees.

    Thanks, Greg

I wouldn't expect the temp at the vents to be what system is set at. When heating the air at vent will be warmer until the rest of the air is warmed up. When the inside temp is at desired setpoint the system will back off or cool down. The inverse with the AC, cooler are at vents until the inside is cooled off. I would recommend keeping on Recycle for better control.
If not satisfied, take back to dealer to address.

I get that. My system does not "back off or cool down". I'm reaching out to see if any other 3rd Gen owners have experienced the same thing. I am currently documenting the problem so that when I take it to the dealer, they can't give me the runaround.

I have noticed some strange things with mine as well. Just haven't really had the time to document anything. Seems like the system has a mind of its own and is on Auto even when I have it off Auto. Of course, I haven't read the manual so it is quite possible I am missing something. Interested to see what others say.

I have read all the documentation I can find. The Automatic (temp) feature allegedly still functions even if the light is off. When you change the fan setting, it no longer controls fan speed but is supposed to control temp. "Mind of it's own" is an understatement.

I never use this option in my wifes camry the "auto" because of this right here. I guess I'm old school. I like to turn it up and down myself.

I have figured out the problem and Toyota is stumped. Whenever you change the mode or fan speed when in Auto, the auto light turns off and so does the temperature control. You can't control the temperature. I have done testing since my first post and Toyota has no clue as to why the system is broken. This system is broken and I believe all of these vehicles suffer the same problem. Everyone I have talked to that has the Auto HVAC in their late model Toyota says they have the same problem and their solution is to simply turn it off. That's unacceptable.
