Hey guys I have a question???? What is everyone’s oil preferences? This is my first tundra and it has 20k on her. I have wrote a thread on my truck sounding like a Diesel engine and have seen people recommending a different brand of oil?? If I can get some input on this it would be great. I love my truck and want to treat her right lol

I've used Pennzoil Platinum and also Walmart Supertech 0w-20 and can't tell any difference other than price of the oil. Neither changed the diesel sound in my truck or changed mileage or performance...

Brand does not matter as long as it is a name brand. Proper viscosity matters along with changing it at the correct intervals as outlined in the owners manual. I have never heard of an engine failing because of oil brand.

Yep search option leaves a lot to be desired... even if you used advanced options..

That said and I've been using Mobil 1 extended life for all my previous vehicles and will continue with the Tundra.

    Walmart had best prices...

Oil threads should be killed without prejudice.

Answer. Whatever you want using the manual and common sense. When is the last time you've heard of an engine being destroyed by oil.

Ok let’s kill this thread, man I’m new here to this forum. Almost mistaken for a ford site, to many people talking shit! I understand what oil viscosity is and what it does ( I am a journeyman millwright) I’m just new to Toyota and wanted so insight. :crapstorm:

Ahhh don’t sweat it. It happens. When using the search function, there have been so many threads done in so many ways with so many different titles it can be difficult to isolate what you’re looking for. Try different phrases and ways to search. You may have to comb through many different threads as sometimes the search function will just pick out your specific phrase and it will just be in a random thread somewhere.
Here is my search for oil viscosity.

Since no criteria or other "boundaries" were noted by the OP then my answer to my preference is this: Royal Purple. Once you go Purple you never ever ever ever ever go back.

I have always been partial to mobil. I put it in all my vehicles. Don't know why, just do. Half the time i buy Toyota oil from the stealership because it is equal or less than the cost of mobil.

The noise you’re hearing is due to an aluminum block and overhead cams. It’s just a noisy engine. Nothing to worry about.
