Hey guys and gals! I have a question, and I ask that if you respond, talk to me like I’m 5 because I do not know anything electrical systems.

My truck has a dual-horn system like everyone else’s. I decided to upgrade the horn. I installed it today and it was awesome! For about 5 honks when the fuse blew! It turns out that he new horn pulls 20 amps and the original fuse is 10 amps. Obviously I’m not going to just put in a bigger fuse (I’m ignorant, not dumb) so here’s the question. How do I make this work? For now I re-installed the original horns and replaced the 10amp fuse.

    What horns did you install?
Hella horns should be installed with a relay.

A relay will solve problem. Every truck I own gets several added on! Can even keep running your stock horns in addition to new horns for more loudness!

Bosch type relay: 12v from battery to pin 30. Pin 87 to 12v on horn. 12v from original horn to pin 85 on relay . Pin 86 on relay to ground.

So, now when you press horn it closes the circuit for new horns.

Yes, fuse is needed unless you want a possibility of fire.

And remember not to reverse the wires or when you push the button, your horns will suck not blow:rofl:

A relay will safely handle the extra amps without melting wires or causing a fire. If you are not comfortable with this wiring job, either a local mechanic or even a car stereo shop should be able to handle this for you at a minimal charge.

Thanks. Yeah I can handle that. I may just keep the original horns and add this one then.

    Thanks.
