    I'm no suspension/alignment guru, yet. But with enough questions I'll hopefully get my yellow belt soon.
    Shouldn't the cams be in relatively the same position on each side front to front back to back?

    Nope. They move independently for a reason. If your car was symmetrical in the first place it wouldn't even need cam bolts. Warped frames, worm bushing, ball joints, worn springs....a hundred little things that end up never made the same in the first place or aged differently and you end up with asymmetry....which is why we have cam bolts to get wheels straight despite all that.
