I recently acquired a 2001 Tundra with the V8 the guy thought the tranny was shot because there's no reverse when I got the truck and had no reverse and no neutral we had to drag it out of the parking spot when you put it in reverse it was in Drive and neutral was also Drive it runs in all the forward gears just fine the gear shift fine at the normal RPMs when I got home I put it in park and then put it back into reverse reverse is now neutral and now the drive gears start in the neutral position I talked to a couple people and they think it might be sensor at the shift lever in the column if anybody has any idess or knows anything about this would be greatly appreciated before I send it to a shop and spend tons of money

Thumbs up not sure what your problem is and its not one many have on this forum but you could try an internet seach or take it to a mechanic and see what they say but not sure really as we can only guess at what the problem could be hera on this site you know what I mean

I would check the shift cable at the transmission first.

Possible shift cable adjustment stretched need replacement recommend get under engine running wheels locked chocked disconnect cable manually shift determine neutral someone inside move lever see how align could skip engine safer need drive shaft find lever positions. Helper NO GAS GAS = NO MO OP

If it's not related to the shift cable somehow it's likely that the shifter is about the crap the bed but for some reason it hasn't broken completely so the shift sequence is just screwed up...

Come on guys, this is easy! If it's in drive while showing reverse, someone put the trans in backwards! Just pull it out and turn it around! Might be hard to do with one thumb though...
